Great app, but after one of the recent updates, I can’t use swipe gesture to go back and instead has to click on the close icon to go back. This feels like a downgraded experience

This was once a really good app, but the recent addition of large numbers of undercover ads has driven me away.

I appreciate that Google News serves up lots of articles without having to pay for a monthly subscription, unlike Apple News, but it is so chock full of advertisements, floating videos, prompts to accept cookies and weird formatting that it is practically unusable. Try Flipbook instead. It is a much cleaner interface, with fewer ads and better formatting.
  • No subscription options, can’t open links in browser!

How you can customize your feed and the long list of content are the best aspects of the app, however you often get news articles that cannot be accessed without a subscription to that news source! Additionally, you cannot copy the link or open the article in another browser without it freezing, forcing you to close the app and risk loosing the article altogether!

You can be reading a story and then it just crashes. Happens so often now it’s not even worth using this app anymore.
  • Right swipe to go back not working

It was nice before where I can handle entire app with just one hand because right swipe took me back to previous page. Now it’s not working so I have to scroll up to go click cancel button to close news content and go back to feed. Not sure why google removed that feature.

1- reinstate our ability to stop unwanted News corporations and other event sources 2- Remove NEW YORK TIMES that take totally takes over the news item by demanding an approval subscription that demands agreement with their sales and cookies that can not be removed OR I WILL DELEAT GOOGLE NEWS AS I DELETED GOOGLE.😡😡😡 Readers, Google is making an all out effort “right now” to take over my and your phones with cookies😡😡😡
  • Formerly Excellent, Now Lacking: A Disappointing Update Hinders Google News App's User Experience

As an avid user of the Google News app for quite some time, I have been both impressed and appreciative of its ability to provide me with a tailored news experience. However, my once-high regard for this app has diminished considerably with its latest update, which introduced a frustrating limitation that prevents users from seamlessly swiping from one story to another. Previously, the Google News app offered a fluid and intuitive interface that allowed users to effortlessly navigate through a myriad of news articles by simply swiping left or right. This feature was not only convenient but also an efficient way to explore various topics of interest. It ensured a smooth and immersive reading experience, making me look forward to catching up on the latest news every day. Regrettably, the recent update has stripped away this beloved functionality, leaving me disheartened and dissatisfied. Now, instead of being able to transition seamlessly between articles, I find myself having to go back to the main screen each time I finish reading one story, only to manually select the next one. This interruption in flow disrupts the user experience, making the app feel clunky and cumbersome to navigate. The removal of such a fundamental feature is perplexing, as it seems to be a step backward rather than an improvement. While the update may have introduced other minor enhancements or visual changes, the loss of the swiping feature overshadowed any positive aspects for me. I can't help but feel that the developers failed to consider the impact of this alteration on the overall usability of the app. Nonetheless, I must acknowledge that the Google News app still excels in delivering relevant and personalized news content. Its algorithm continues to curate a diverse range of stories based on my interests, ensuring that I remain well-informed on topics that matter to me. Additionally, the app's sleek and minimalist design remains visually appealing and easy on the eyes. However, the absence of the swipe functionality has significantly diminished my overall satisfaction with the Google News app. I sincerely hope that the developers will take note of the user feedback and address this issue promptly. Restoring the ability to swipe between stories would undoubtedly restore the app's former glory and make it a top-tier news platform once again. In conclusion, while the Google News app retains its capability to deliver personalized news content, the removal of the swipe feature in its latest update has greatly hampered its user experience. As a result, my enthusiasm for this once-favored app has diminished. I sincerely hope that the developers will rectify this setback, as it would greatly enhance the overall usability and restore my confidence in the Google News app.

Just a little news. I guess what do you want for free?
  • No ‘swipe back’ feature

Used to be my favorite news app. Not a fan of the new layout. You also used to be able to swipe out of the article and back to where you were in your feed. It seems like there’s no swipe back feature and that you have to ‘x’ out of the article to get back. Reading the news in the morning in bed, one-handed, is now impossible.
