  • No Read Aloud

So incredibly disappointing that they do not include the “Read Aloud” function on iOS. Cannot recommend this app at all. I’ve spend hundreds to thousands of dollars on books from Google and I will now need to switch to Apple Books because they at least they partially work with the screen reader option. This is clearly an intentional exclusion. My other reading app that is much smaller compared to Google maintains the same read aloud function found on Android. It recognizes it as media and allows me to pause and play while working or driving.
  • Very poor app.

The pages of the book keep disappearing. It’s very frustrating! It’s upsetting not to be able to read 10 pages in a row and then trying to figure out how to get the following pages. The pages are blank. Very upsetting!!!!
  • The Worst Book App Ever Created.

You buy a pdf of a book legally from a site authorized by the publisher to sell them and when you upload them to google play books it does a color reversal because the dumbest programmers on earth think the pdf is stolen. Google apps are utter trash.

I love this app so much until now. After stupidly updated the app, it no longer allows to copy and paste. I love to use google play books not only to read but also to help translating some parts of the book and copy/paste help a lot. Please have it back or allow us to go back to older version.

Overall, I really like this app. However, every time I finish a chapter, the app doesn't seem to load the next. I have to close the app and reopen.

  • Add Current Time Feature

I love Google Playbooks app more than any of the popular reading apps. I really like its aesthetics, really appeals to me. However, biggest downfall is that it does not currently display the current time when reading. I personally like to indulge in a good book between 12-2 AM. But sometimes I get too into it and it’s like 3 AM. I would like to have the feature to display the current time. I think at the top middle of the screen would be the best. Also, I’m a programmer, so I know this is not hard to implement at all. If others do not want the time, then just make an if statement that if they tapped on the time, make it disappear from the screen. Tap the spot again to bring it back. You can also just implement a switch.
  • Not up-to-par

Considering how many hacks work for Google, and how rich the company is, there is no excuse to NOT have a text-to-speech reader.
  • Google at its pettiest

I just want to buy a book 😭 This is the weirdest request Google spitefully refuses to let me do and they give exactly zero elaboration, leaving me to assume they’re angry I got an Apple product after tiring of the “let whoever pays us make our OS as annoying and bloatware filled as they want” philosophy of Android that Google themselves did by choice. There’s a mention of buying on a website but I refuse to jump through hoops just because Google feels like being petty
  • Tts features seemingly nonexistent

Your help section spouts nonsense about using voice over to read the book aloud for me since you guys are to lazy to include a read aloud button by default. You don’t even need to use your own voices. Just default to my device default it’s all set up. I hate having to flip pages I just want it to read the books I paid for to me while I’m busy working. Instead I have to read literally anything else with much better reader apps but that’s the part that is making me mad all the money I spent on my good play books library is going to waste since it doesn’t work for what I need it for at all with my iPhone. This alone is enough for 0 star from me but sadly you have to pick at least 1
