Description

***Save 50% for a limited time*** Torment: Tides of Numenera is the thematic successor to Planescape: Torment, one of the most critically acclaimed and beloved role-playing games of all time. Torment: Tides of Numenera is a single-player, isometric, narrative-driven role-playing game set in Monte Cook’s Numenera universe, and brought to you by the creative team behind Planescape: Torment and the award-winning Wasteland 2. Main Features • A Deep, Thematically Satisfying Story. The philosophical underpinnings of Torment drive the game, both mechanically and narratively. Your words, choices, and actions are your primary weapons. • A World Unlike Any Other. Journey across the Ninth World, a fantastic, original setting, with awe-inspiring visuals, offbeat and unpredictable items to use in and out of battle, and stunning feats of magic. Powered by technology used in the award-winning Pillars of Eternity by Obsidian Entertainment, the Numenera setting by Monte Cook provides endless wonders and impossibly imaginative locations for you to explore. • A Rich, Personal Narrative. Thoughtful and character-driven, the story is epic in feel but deeply personal in substance, with nontraditional characters and companions whose motivations and desires shape their actions throughout the game. • Reactivity, Replayability, and the Tides. Your choices matter, and morality in the Ninth World is not a simple matter of “right” and “wrong”. You will decide the fates of those around you, and characters will react to your decisions and reputation. The result is a deeply replayable experience that arises naturally from your actions throughout the game. • A New Take on Combat. With the Crisis system, combat is more than just bashing your enemies. Plan your way through hand-crafted set-pieces which combine battles with environmental puzzles, social interaction, stealth, and more. System Requirements • OS: Mac OSX 10.8 or higher (64 bit) • Processor: Intel i5 series or equivalent • Memory: 4 GB RAM • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 700M series or equivalent • Storage: 15 GB available space Legal Torment: Tides of Numenera © 2017 inXile entertainment Inc. • Brilliant, weird AF RPG

I originally got this game when it released on PS4 three years ago, and it was a beautiful, otherworldly role-playing experience. The writing effectively conveys an extremely immersive, bizzare and alien, yet still relatable, in-game universe. There's quite a bit of reading involved, but that's no problem for me. I recently got my MacBook Pro 16" to help me through nursing school, so if I wasn't okay with endless pages of reading, I wouldn't be pursuing this career path.. Still, this game may not be for everyone. Anyhow, I loved this game a few years ago on console, despite all the slowdown and random crashes. With my reasonably well-specced Mac(A2141), it runs buttery smooth. Load times in between areas that took around 20-30 seconds are reduced to 5-10. I've yet to experience any random crashes, which were definitely present on Playstation, so I've got my fingers crossed. So far, though, I'm getting a high-end experience of one my favorite titles in recent memory on a high-end machine. If you've got a well specced Mac and like RPGs, especially if you haven't already played this on another platform, absolutely pick it up. 5/5. 😊 Btw, as I see at least one other reviewer mentioning as I type this, I also played Planescape: Torment back in the 2000's, and this is absolutely a worthy spiritual successor. It's no replacement for Planescape, by any means, but it deserves, every bit, to carry the "Torment" brand forward into the modern era.
  • Game looks good. It just doesn't work!

Maxed-out MB Pro from 2017. Just get past the character creation and the screen starts juttering and bombs. Did it three times. Now how do I get my money back? Who knows!
  • Rating for game locking, not game play

I am frustrated by the game going into an endless loop in the lost anchorage removing the cortex quest. Thus the 2 star rating. I can keep playing the game. This should be at least a 4 star game for most of the reasons mentioned by others. It is beautiful and the writiing is excellent. I love the way the party can often stop a crisis by talking or negotiating rather than just hack and slash. It is tricky to get into as there first parts of the game can be confusing. As another reviewer mentioned, there are on line resources that are worth checking to ease the start up frustrations. The NPCs are unique, weird and interesting personalities.. The creativity in this game is stunning. The mystery of who you are really adds an overall larger quest feeling to the game. Actually, I feel it is well worth playing, if it only wouldn’t lock...
  • I want to play but I can't

I really want to play this game, but I simply cannot. I bought this a week ago on my 2017 Macbook Pro with Intel Iris Plus Graphics 650 1536 MB graphics card running OS High Sierra, and once the actual gameplay starts (only a minute or so in) the game screen begins to flicker and never recovers. I hope this gets fixed soon because I really do want to play this game. It’s totally unplayable.
  • Great, but familiar for Planescape Torment veterans

I used to love playing "Planescape: Torment" when it came out, and I have very much enjoyed it’s re-release. But if you have played that, then this will seem very familiar. I won’t say that the themes repeat those in "Planescape: Torment"… but they do rhyme, to misappropriate Samuel Clemens. There is less emphasis on hard combat compared to "Planescape: Torment", and the game makers have done a good job of making the quests seem a bit less like a grocery checklist. It’s a really fun game!

There are no explanations how to use this software. There is no game manual, no rule book, no tutorials. All instructions on using the games software & how to play this game are given during game play with dialog boxes. These dialog boxes are misnamed as tutorials. There are no tutorials. I can’t find any explanation of game controls. I saw nothing that helped from in-game dialog boxes. There is a listing of “Controls" and “Screens. “ But there are no explanations for anything in these lists. Even in game there are no explanations for things like the following: What does pressing [Tab] - Highlight do? What does the term, “Highlight” mean in this software? Pressing [P] for Pause does nothing. Pressing [F5] Quicksave does nothing. What does pressing [F9] for Quickload do? What does pressing [Space] - End Turn do? What does, “End Turn” mean? What does [Return] - Submit do? I don’t know how to pause the game. These things are not explained. I don’t know how to restart the game where I left off. So every time I try to play it again I have to go through the long boring intro. I tried pressing [F9] at different times to no avail. So I cannot play the game because I cannot learn how to use the software. And getting dialog windows that clutter up the game experience does not help with using the game software. Although you’re suppose to be able to turn off these in-game dialog windows. If you don’t already know how to use this software or play this game you have to find directions somewhere outside the game. I have not been able to find explanations of the game mechanics elsewhere. It appears developers of this game decided to save time and money by not including instructions on the use of the game’s software. It has been a frustrating waste of time and money for me. Way too expensive for nothing but: pretty pictures, and pretty music, and that includes at 50% off.

I think it would be a nice game, it just crashes to desktop or hangs every few minutes, even on reduced graphics settings. If it runs for you, you’ll probably enjoy it….
  • Great Story, good gameplay, would recommend

What I liked most about the game was that the choices you make seem to make enough of a difference in the direction of the story such that there is more than just a change in the end story. I also really appreciated that there is normally a way around drawn out combat sequences, but also the option to have them if it suits your fancy. Ran perfectly on a 2014 MBP, 2.2 GHz i7, Iris Pro graphics card, 16GB DR3 RAM
