Description

Make the movie of your dreams amid the glamor and romance of 1950s Hollywood! "Hollywood Visionary" is a 150,000-word interactive novel by Aaron A. Reed, where your choices control the story. It's entirely text-based--without graphics or sound effects--and fueled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination. As head of your own movie studio, you call the shots: hire Hitchcock, seduce Garbo, build your studio into an Oscar-winning powerhouse or star in a B-movie train wreck. Control everything about your production, from genre to casting to building up buzz. Do you have what it takes to become a Hollywood visionary? • Conquer the movie biz as a writer, director, producer, actor, or editor • Banter with Hollywood royalty like Orson Welles and Greta Garbo • Choose from dozens of genres and modifiers to make your film unique • Five possible endings to discover • Find love or throw yourself into your art: extensive but optional romance plots • Win an Oscar, create a cult classic, or languish in film obscurity • Will you name names for the blacklist, or risk everything to uphold your artistic ideals? • 150,000 words of content • Flexible gender presentation: independently control your pronouns, appearance, titles, and romance options

Played this game for a laugh, it took me and my boyfriend a month to finish it. We spent beautiful evenings together reading out loud and making decisions in the game. Maybe it’s because we’re both in the film industry, but by the end we were in tears. Can’t wait to play again.

This game is overall very well thought out. I enjoyed every second and it’s a splendid time killer! I really can’t think of anything negative to say about it. :)

App keeps randomly crashing over and over again. A really good app that got ruined by bugs 👎🏾

To begin with I was super excited to play this so I downloaded it and when it loaded up it was AWESOME the options were creative and fun but it all went down hill when I had to start worrying about relationships which really weren't that important to me but it seemed like that was all the game cared about also why the heck is this game so obsessed with communism it would of made a good side plot but come on this isn't why I bought the game plus when my movie won the oscar I didn't get to see the aftermath of basically anything which just left me saying is this it?

I've bought and played almost all of the games available from Choice of Games, but this has to be one of my absolute favorites. I love the vintage feel of Hollywood that the story takes place in. The characters are memorable and the storyline flows well. I only regret that there's so few endings; either you leave town or have your work recognized much later on. With the way those endings play out I believe that a sequel would add much more to the storyline.

Hollywood Visionary looks really good at the beginning. All the options for customizing your protagonist are great, and the tensions of making a great movie vs. having a personal life vs. getting enough leisure time so as not to become a stressed-out wreck of a person are very compelling. You make so many decisions throughout the game, you think you're in control of your destiny and your choices matter. They do not. The quality of your movie is but an afterthought towards the end of the game; the game stops being about Hollywood and movies and becomes about a congressional witch hunt for Communists. I wish I was kidding; I'm as opposed to Communism as a person can be, and yet the game turns into this awful, boring, unfair trial to determine whether you're a Communist or not, and ultimately you're presented with the choice of either sacrificing an innocent acquaintance of yours to this witch hunt, or sacrificing yourself. The ending is terrible and mostly nothing you do during the fun parts of the game matters. Looks great at the start, but then drops the ball, trips on it and breaks its neck. Very disappointing.

This is one of my favorite stories in the CoG universe. It's not the longest one, but it's definitely long enough to allow multiple replays with completely different pathways. It's not perfect and I still haven't been able to figure out how to complete a couple achievements despite trying every option. But it's definitely up there with Choice of Romance as one of the top CoG offerings to date.

This game is somewhat stressful to play, almost every choice made gives the sense of possible failure just around the corner, which the game used to its benefit. The game is a little buggy but overall solid.

This game is great. Every little decision does affect you later on the game. Definite buy.
