Description

Battle demons and undead attorneys, and win souls to pay back your student loans! At the elite demonic-law firm of Varkath Nebuchadnezzar Stone, you'll depose a fallen god, find romance, and maybe even make partner, if you don't lose your own soul first. "Choice of the Deathless" is a necromantic legal thriller by Max Gladstone, Campbell Award-nominated author of Three Parts Dead and Two Serpents Rise. The game is entirely text-based--without graphics or sound effects--and powered by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination. • Explore a fantasy realm with a rich and evolving backstory, based on the novels published by Tor Books. • Play as male or female, gay or straight, dead or alive (or both). • Build your career on carefully reasoned contracts, or party all night with the skeletal partners at your firm. • Navigate intrigue and mystery in a world of scheming magicians and devious monsters. • Look for love in at least some of the right places. • Balance student loans, sleep, daily commute, rent payments, and demonic litigation—hey, nobody said being a wizard was always fun.

I'm happy that I took the plunge into buying this game. Love the characters and their personalities. I adore the world the author created. This game led me to reading the Craft Sequence series and it's honestly life changing.

Interesting, beautiful world-building. Lots of choices with consequences. A couple different romance options. Just over all a really fun game with a great story! I've played it many times.
  • Great! The First Time Around

Literate, error-free prose that allows the reader some input in navigating the plot's myriad twists and turns. A bit disappointed in the depth and number of choice offered, however. Usually, I satisfy that craving by re-playing. The huge drawback to the series for me is the absence of bookmarks or chapter save points, even. To replay is to wade through pages and pages of text which does not change much if what I desire are subtle changes in approach to maximize (or minimize) trait scoring. Lacking that, at least inform us of how much charisma or craft, or whatnot we'd need for a particular choice selection. I'd still recommend as this story is like an economical novella that is written with skill and creativity.

I've played almost all COGs but I put off playing this one because the idea of playing a lawyer just didn't appeal to me. That said, this was a *great* game. The writing, setting, and characters are strong. The choices you make greatly affect the game experience and the ending. Your skills are fun and interesting, and there are plenty of relationships to explore. Yes, you play a lawyer but your clients and cases are just plain cool. There is plenty of engaging drama, and the end is very climatic and satisfying. I just finished it, and I look forward to trying again - it seems like there are many different endings. I liked playing this game a lot, and as many reviewers have stated, I really hope there will be a sequel or another game set in the same world. Definitely worth your time and money, give it a try!

This interactive story of demonic office politics is a delight, at times creepy and at times hilarious. The writing is top notch, even by the high standards of this developer, and this particular story should make anyone who's worked in a law firm smirk (or sigh) at the accuracy of its details.

I did enjoy this game and replayed a few times. It has less replay value than some of their other games and choices seemed to have less impact. The setting/world and characters were very interesting though, and overall, I am glad I played.
