Description

Return to Monkey Island is an unexpected, thrilling return of series creator Ron Gilbert that continues the story of the legendary adventure games The Secret of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge developed in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games. It’s been many years since Guybrush Threepwood was last locked in a battle of wits with his nemesis, the zombie pirate LeChuck. His true love, Elaine Marley, has turned her focus away from governing and Guybrush himself is adrift and unfulfilled, having never found the Secret of Monkey Island. Hip, young pirate leaders led by Captain Madison have shuffled the old guard from power, Melee Island has taken a turn for the worse, and famed businessman Stan has been imprisoned for ‘marketing-related crimes’. Banter with old friends and new faces on familiar islands now under dangerous new leadership. Then, take to the high seas and explore the new and unknown as you work your way out of tough predicaments. Clever puzzles, bizarre situations, and devastating ripostes are all that stand between Guybrush and glory. Return to Point & Click Swashbuckling Bringing classic point and click gameplay to the modern-day, intrepid pirates will solve puzzles and explore the islands with a clever evolution of classic adventure game controls. Context-sensitive interactions, reactive dialog trees, and an easy-to-use inventory system make pirating a breeze. Embark on Archipelago Adventures Navigate the sometimes-friendly confines of Melee Island, a familiar place that finds itself under new management by leaders who have put the squeeze on old friends and new faces. Venture out into uncharted lands like the aptly named Terror Island and the chilling outposts of Brrr Muda to make allies and enemies alike. Created by a Legendary Crew The new chapter in the Monkey Island series marks the return of the iconic series’ creator Ron Gilbert, joined by game co-writer Dave Grossman, art director Rex Crowle (Knights & Bikes, Tearaway) and composers Peter McConnell, Michael Land, and Clint Bajakian (Monkey Island, Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge).

  • Wonderful and Nostalgic

I played on hard mode and it was wonderful. Everything you love about Monkey Island with some fresh twists. Familiar locations and characters along with some new ones. Lots of fun references to earlier inventory items, challenges, and storyline. It will definitely be a better experience for folks that have played the original games. People complaining about the ending don’t get the reference. It’s actually genius. The graphics and audio are great and the puzzles are the right level of challenging. I never pay this much for apps but, well, it’s Monkey Island!

The gameplay was great and all, but the ending is so abrupt and completely unsatisfying 🫤

Loved the original DOS games as a kid & this is an enjoyable adaptation. I especially enjoyed the lore behind "Jon Laney" who was known for impersonating all kinds of monsters & creatures, which is clearly a fantastic nod to the wonderful acting & makeup skills of Lon Chaney Sr.
  • How to resume purchasing?

I bought it a long time ago, how can I replace it? Try it first, then buy it, and then I have to buy it internally to play! Angry! There is no option to restore purchases in the game!

I paid for the app, used it a while, deleted it and a few weeks later downloaded it and played it again. The app let me play for a while and then keeps trying to force me to purchase it again. There is no restore option. I reported the issue to the software company and after a few weeks they gave me a code to enter and download it again. I did and the only thing they offered was to try the app for free or purchase it again. Either Apple is making it too difficult for this company to restore the purchased apps or they do not want to restore the app and are intentionally trying to force people to pay for apps that have already been paid for. You should beware the app will try to make you pay for it again if you delete it and then reinstall it like you can do with all of your other purchases. If you are looking to be treated like that this is the app for you!

In the scenes with all the kids, it was at first worrisome for older fans that they MI they remember is a kid game now, but then you’re Guybrush again and it all satisfies. I am at the part having the map to the mop and a hint refers to place that I can’t find; I wish it were clearer whether this is the point at which you have to buy the game before proceeding or if I missed something, it would be nice of the devs to make it clearer.
  • Restore option?

Edit: One month later, where is the fix for the restore of past purchases? Is it too late to ask for a refund? Where is the restore option for those of us that purchased the game before it became free to try? Still waiting….
  • Game Ending is rushed

Game starts off strong, but then you notice the game is recycling areas throughout the game, and without spoiling anything the ending is utter dissapointment. One moment you’re about to see the climax of the story, the next…well youre let down in the most laziest way possible. Such a shame, I grew up with Guybrush.

All your favorite characters are back in this fan favorite. Ahoy Matey. Shiver me timbers swashbucklers. The mighty fierce pirate Guybrush needs your help again. If I told you the secret of Monkey Island, it wouldn’t be a secret. Lots of fun classic traditional puzzles, fun characters, cutely drawn story boards, great music per scene and more. Awesome voiceovers.
