Invoke powerful magic, uncover helpful items, and level up your character to upgrade your stats before facing down menacing guardians. Once the curse has been lifted the challenging Arena Mode and thirty unlockable achievements await even the most accomplished warrior. Bleak Sword is designed to be able to play it easily with elegant controls allowing heroes to roll, parry, attack and counter-attack using basic movements on gamepads and touch controls. Scored by award-winning composer Jim Guthrie with sound by famed designer Joonas Turner.

Firstly, this simple art style conveys SO MUCH! Because it's just pixels, the additional 3D aspects really pop out in a very pleasant way. The touch controls are SUPRISINGLY useful and you will not miss a controller. I love being able to go back through previously beaten levels in order to level up and learn more about certain monsters. If there was a bit of feedback I could give, it would be that I would like landscape mode when using a controller (I have one of those controller cases where the orientation cannot because changed to portrait). That said, the touch controls more than satisfy very intense playthroughs withOUT making you think, "you know, I would have won if I was able to use a controller."

I personally love the art style and combat feel. However.... a few things: - on a Mac, you need a controller. doesn't work well without one - there's a few weird things I'd classify as bugs, like that you can't pause while the graphic displaying the level is on screen - why do you lose items when dying? - why do you not reset health between levels Overall though, fun and engaging game.

What has truly held my backs from playing this game was the lack of controller support. No longer, THIS GAME HAS PROPER COTROLLER SUPPORT that just works. 11/10 this games is now my favorite in  Arcade!

The graphics are really good and the sounds are nice but the controls are horribly placed and difficult.

Playing this on a mac? don't bother. It's really not fun. The controls feel like they were set up by letting a cat walk across an apple ][ keyboard
  • Just awful

This game has the clunkiest controls I’ve ever seen. Just like the retro graphics, it’s a control scheme that reminds me of an Atari 2600. Perry and strike is good. Missing 2/3 of your shots because it’s doing the wrong thing is not. Also, there’s no point to the retro graphics. Normally pixel art denotes a simplfied view of the world or beauty in minimalism. Here it just comes across as lazy.

Interesting art ideas. Most of which hurt gameplay. The low resolution and color scheme seriously limits the information the player recieves about enemy states. (Is he attacking, moving, etc?) This is important in a game with a combat system based on parrying and timing attacks. Combat system is ultra clunky. Game is SLOWWWW. Finishing the first level prompts a mission complete screen that shows your exp gain and unimportant celebration animation. This is after killing literally 2 enemies. Story animations are slow and long as well, essentially forcing the player to skip them. The gameplay certainly hasn't earned the laborious story animations in the first place.

I first played Bleak Sword on my iPhone 7 Plus and instantly fell in love. Retro Arcade graphics intuitive/modern controls: WOW. Bleak Sword is my favorite arcade game for iOS. Unfortunately, the Macintosh version has a very awkward/unnatural control interface. Mac users currently dont have the option to customize control keys. I would like to request trackpad support for Bleak Sword. Imagine utilizing the multitouch features of the Macbook's trackpad to mimick the IOS version controls.
