Description

Jade Empire: Special Edition is an award-winning action RPG from the makers of Dragon Age and Mass Effect. Experience a unique combination of fast paced martial arts action with a gripping, character driven story set in a mythical land. Each decision builds your reputation, changing the course of interactions with other characters and followers. Take the role of a master of martial arts, and recruit followers to your cause in an interactive, living world. Embark on an epic journey with fascinating characters across a graphically beautiful, fantastic new world inspired by the myths and legends of ancient China. Sinister events upset the peaceful harmony of an isolated martial arts school, drawing you into a story that unfolds with drama, action, and adventure. Detailed followers and other non-player characters enrich the adventure by providing comic relief, rivalries, flirtations, and hostility. Stare in awe at the sweeping views of the lush environments, sheer vertical drops, and overpowering scale that provide the visual backdrop to the story. Confront wild outlaws, evil magicians, demonic incarnations, and other foul villains that protect the Jade Empire’s darkest secrets • Additional information about Jade Empire: Special Edition • If you encounter problems playing the game, please visit support.aspyr.com. Hello, I got this game for my Intel Macbook Pro a few years ago. l love this game. I upgraded to the New MacBook Pro 14 inch M1 Pro running Mac OS Ventura 13.3.1 and it still runs great. It works well and natively with a gamepad - Logitech F310 Wired Gamepad Controller It won't work correctly with MFi Steel Series wireless controller or a Xbox One Wireless controller or the wired Xbox 360 controller natively.

Don't believe the game description! Also beware that if you do buy it and pursue a refund when you inevatbly find out that it doesn't support controller usage, Apple WILL NOT give you a refund. Thanks for pocketing my $10 and not giving me anything in return, Apple. Real cool.

The description claims it supports controllers but upon attempting to get it to accept my USB connected PS4 controller, it doesn’t work. Another reviewer stated this but it was on the second page of reviews and had I seen this I wouldn’t have wasted $10 on this game! The game is great, if you can get it to run with a controller. What a waste of flippin’ money!

Description states that it supports controller use. It doesn't. Waste of Money. Never again buying games on MAC.

Game worked great until I updated to Big Sur. After that once I clicked play on the load screen it just never loaded. Tried reinstalling the app and no change. Please update as this is one of my favorites.

At first, I thought Jade Empire would be just another boring fantasy game. However, so similar to KOTOR, its storyline is so impactful and I absolutely LOVE games like this which have a philosophy behind them. Unlike some fantasy games, which is why I personally enjoyed playing Jade Empire compared to any other game. Not only the fact that Jade Empire is considerably cheap for a game of this size, the side quests really are just worth your time and it gives you kind of what a possible realistic point of view would be of an Ancient China. For me the resolution goes only to 1680*1050. This game would be great if they add retina support.
  • Great game then, Great game now

TLDR is at the bottom. I played this game back when it was released for the original xbox. It was great then (similar to the original Fable, except with a better plot but less of an open world). Pros of the game include fun characters, a couple options for romance, two morality paths, and optional characters that you can kill/avoid/have join your party. Less importantly, the graphics were also really good at the time, and now they're tolerable but clearly antiquated. Replayed it recently on my 2019 macbook pro w/ Catalina and an external controller - very solid experience. All in all, still a great game. Plot: 10/10 (superb) Graphics: 6/10 (dated, but acceptable) Gameplay: 8/10 (a bit redundant, but still challenging) Replay value: 7/10 (less fun once you know the end, but still worth a second time through due to character creation, morality options, romance options, and recruiting optional party members)

Okay, I’m just gonna start out saying that this may be the most overlooked and underrated classic ever. So the graphics aren’t jaw dropping. That’s fine. It just means the game will take up less storage. The gameplay is surprisingly fluid, and the plot is mind boggling. My favorite part about this game, though, is that the choices you make in-game actually shape the story as you play, so you either become a follower of the “open palm” or the “closed fist.” This game mostly open world too, which is always a plus. The only thing that truly sadens be about this great game is its length. I beat the main storyline in about 15 hours thinking that once I beat the main story, I could go back and do all the extras I missed. Unfortunately, this game was made to be more of a movie-like experience, so once you finish the game, it’s back to the main menu for you. You can save right before it ends and go back, but where’s the fun in that? you can also make a new character and start over, but the game wan’t really long enough that I felt the need. Anyways, overall this was a super great game, and I absolutely love it. I just wish there was more. Maybe a sequel? That’s just my opinion, but don’t miss out on this game y’all. Definately worth the ten bucks easily. Great job developers.
  • Great Story, grinding gameplay

I loved the way that it so seamlessly created a distinct universe and the RPG system was fun and simple, but not too restrictive. It has a morality system and I know many people complain about that, but from my point of view, it’s either that or the pathetic “role-playing” of Mass Effect Andromeda so, I choose morality. It has a good amount of choices, fun characters, romance, and plot twists, enough to definitely keep you interested. It is on the short side (doing every side quest I could) it took me about 14 hours, but luckily it doesn’t overstay its welcome and leaves you wanting more. Now for the weakest link, the gameplay. It starts out trying to trick you into thinking its slightly more complex than it is, saying you can block, power attack, block, and use combos with different styles. The truth is that you should just spam one style and just keep using that (except for the few enemies which are immune to certain attacks.) The best styles I found during my playthrough were Leaping Tiger, Jade Golem, and Mirabelle. Just keep using those and upgrading them and you’ll kill everyone. The enemies are easily stunlocked, way too easily. Still, I loved the game, and it was definitely worth the price. I’ll have to try KOTOR 1 and 2 next and compare them to this Bioware game.
