Description

Voice Dream Reader lets you listen to PDF documents, Web articles, and eBooks using text-to-speech. Although it is designed for people with visual impairment, dyslexia, ADHD, and other reading challenges, everyone can benefit. Your documents become audiobooks, so you can read while you walk, exercise or do chores. For productivity-minded people, with some practice, you can read at twice your sight-reading speed. Unlike audiobooks, you can highlight, take notes, and see the words as they're spoken to improve comprehension and retention. Voice Dream Reader for iOS is a 2021 Apple Design Award Winner, and it's been featured by Apple as Best New App and App of the Day in 81 countries. Using the award-winning iOS app as building blocks, we wrote Voice Dream Reader Desktop from ground up as a native macOS app with a completely redesigned user interface. The result is a full-featured, desktop-class application fully optimized for the Mac. ACCOLADES "Both experts recommend Voice Dream Reader as the best app in the text-to-speech space." - Wired “This app is one of the best educational finds of my entire career.” - Forbes “As a user myself and as a mother of a child with dyslexia, I am blown away by the features of Voice Dream.” - Quartz FEATURES Library - Manage all your reading material in one place. - Organize in folders. • The Best TTS App

I had used the iOS version of Voice Dream Reader with Acapela voices for years, but struggled to use it in my text editing work on macOS, since it required me to transfer the text to the other device for conversion. Eventually the macOS version of Voice Dream Reader became available, and I was tempted but held back by the high price. I had been using a competitor on the Mac, but when Acapela dropped the platform, I made the move. Voice Dream Reader is actually better than the other app, and I am reconciled to its use in spite of the price.
  • Best Reading App EVER

I love using the Voice Dream reading app. I use it for my college classes and personal reading. I have the app on my iPhone and Apple computer so I can use it anytime I want to read. I use it to read both English and French books and documents. I have had the app since 2019 and recommended to everyone who loves to read.

although the iOS app has been refined over the years, it looks like a completely new team developed the mac app. I subscribed because I wanted to support this developer and I bought iOS app. But then they announced they switch to subscription on iOS and the app we bought will stop working !!! so thank you but no thank you. Time to take my business somewhere else.
  • They mistreat their legacy users

I purchased this app many years ago and have used it regularly. I was disappointed that they have no interest in supporting legacy users that do not pay their current high subscription rate, and they treat customers in this category very rudely. I have a longstanding support issue which they simply ignore, despite repeated attempts to contact them for a resolution.
  • Great app but needs improvement

The app is extremely accurate where it come to reading pdf files. However, there are some issues that I found while using the app. Sometimes the app freezes while reading a pdf outloud. Also, the highlight feature is ustable and sometime it does not properly highlight the area and highlights another area.
  • Best text to voice app

This is the best text to voice app or at least the best that I've tried. Huge fan of the iOS app, which seems too inexpensive given how great it is. Other reviews complain about the price or subscription model of the macOS app, but it seems appropriate for what you get.

If you signup for Voice Dream on an iPad or iPhone do not do it from your appleID. I did and now I cannot signon to this desktop version as there is no option on it for appleID, you must have an email which for some reason the appleID sign-in did not link to. I have yet to hear back from there suppor and if they fix this issue I am happy to change this rating based on the product itself.
  • $50 a year for trash

This is a half-built app. It crashes every single day I use it multiple times a day. It's DISGUSTING that this dev keeps raising the price. The mobile version was $25 11 months ago, it was $59.99 4 weeks ago, NOW IT IS $80. There is no OCR support, customizeable voices were originally in-app purchases (and even today the same voices are not supported between the Mac and iOS version, which have SEPARATE PAID SUBSCRIPTIONS FOR THE SAME APP), there are synchronization bugs, bugs where books aren't loading, and other bunch of issues. If I hadn't already paid for this, or if there were a lot more options, I would not be using this garbage. This dev is taking advantage of customers. My friends in school all report being quoted prices of >$80 a year for this app now. It's completely unconscionable!!!
