Description

Reduce your risk of injury when running. Run faster! AudioStep helps you to run consistently by running to the beat of all your music. AudioStep analyzes your music and adjusts the tempo on the fly. The pitch does not change. No Chipmunks were harmed building this app! You select your BPM (beats per minute) and all your music plays at that tempo. Initially AudioStep was designed to consistently run at 180 steps per minute by matching each step to the beat of the music playing at 180 beats per minute. Eventually, testers found different use for listening to music at different BPM and so we added a slider where you can set your target BPM going from 120 up to 200 BPM. Studies have found that running at 180 BPM reduces the risk of injuries. Why? The slower the cadence, the longer you are in the air and the harder you land. Slow turn over means more impact, which causes more injury. Most non-elite runners maintain a cadence of around 160 steps per minute. Increasing the step count to 180 per minute will reduce your risk of injury. As a side effect it also makes you run faster. While there have been no studies identified to prove this, there is a lot of anecdotal evidence available online. - Normalized volume (all songs use the same perceived volume, no more Taylor Swift being louder than Metallica, they both are now normalized to the same perceived volume) - Runkeeper support - Bluetooth heart rate monitor support with warnings for high and low heart rates - Voice over status updates (distance, time, split pace, average pace, step count). You can set your own update interval as text entry in miles or meters - 5 eq presets (import for Equalizer presets is in the works) to make it sound the way you want (bassbooster, treble booster, u-shape, extrabass and flat) - Sophisticated Beat Detection library by SampleSumo Read more about a personal account on how AudioStep was developed on our blog at blog.audioforge.org Also please note that continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

  • Doesn’t work at all

It worked only somewhat years ago but the new updates have ruined it. It won’t upload any of my songs. When I look up the playlists through the app and I select a song it does not load it into the app. Complete waste of money.
  • Pretty good in most ways

I haven’t had many of the problems described (so perhaps developers are paying attention), so far the app hasn’t crashed, connects with my iTunes playlist, and keeps good track of my run, speed etc. However, I’m pretty sure that some songs are not being adjusted. Usually I can tell that the speed of a song played through the app is faster than the original. But fairly often, it does not seem that a song is speeded up. I’m not sure if this is related to copyright issues (a previous app I had could only adjust a few certain songs as the other songs were copyright protected) or whether it’s a technical problem. If the former, it would be good if the developers state this up front. If the latter, it would be good if this could be fixed so that all songs reach the desired tempo. Also, I’m only able to indicate a desired tempo at increments of five (e.g., 160, 165, 170). It would be great to do smaller increments (that is, 161, 162, 163)

    - app crashes frequently when running the analyzing step. otherwise, I adore this app! I’d love to see Last.FM scrobbling support added!

Crashes constantly. Will not load any songs. Does not work at all. If the dev can't or doesn't want to figure out what's needed to update, this app needs to be pulled from the store.

I bought this and every time I try and play any song it crashes. Not worth the time and definitely not worth even the 99 cents.
  • Will not load any music

Useless. Should be removed from the store. The app will not load any music from an iPhone on iOS 12.

Wouldn’t analyze my running play list. Crashed at least 5 times while trying to analyze. Then i let I play music while it analyzed. Crashed again. I would like my $.99 back.

Started out fairly stable, but this $4.99 app hasn't weathered recent iOS/iTunes updates well. It cuts out during workouts now, plays one song, or can't locate playlists, really unstable. When it was working the UI wasn't sophisticated but it did the trick. adjustable bpm sliding scale. The songs on my playlist are slowed down or speed up to 180bpm for cadence training and the vocals dont sound distorted which is great! I am going to look for other options.
