Description

No-Input Mixing is an experimental technique for creating a wide range of amazing, otherworldly electronic sounds by feeding the mixer output back to the input, thereby making a feedback loop. This application models an analog mixing console and effects rack in detail, providing the ability to make a huge number of feedback configurations with additional effects. By using this technique in the creative process, the sound designer can explore many different and special ways to create sound. Unsettling soundscapes perfect for sci-fi, dystopian and horror projects, like strange noises, disrupted signals, broken communication, buzzing drones, faulty machinery, futuristic tech sounds, and glitchy elements are some results of the No-Input Mixing technique. The downside of this technique, which can scare off beginners, is extreme unpredictability and instability, when the movement of any knob on the mixer can dramatically change the sound in the most unexpected way. But at the same time, this discover an endless space of experimentation and inspiration when creating new and unique sounds or live performance. NoInputMixer consists of a seven-channel mixer and an effects rack with eight slots. Each effect slot can be configured as an insert effect for a mixer channel or used with two send/return buses. Effects has an option for hi-res or lo-fi sound processing. Each mixer channel has its own algorithmic generator of different types of noise, which can be added to the feedback signal or used separately. The input selector switches between multiple points in the signal path to make different types of feedback loops or can be switched to an external input for any channel to use it as an effect processor. Also this application provides several additional options not found in usual mixers, such as preamp tube type and mode selection, op-amp type selection, adjustment of overload protection circuit, and other features that greatly expand the possibilities for experimenting with sound. The user interface can be presented in the form of a classic mixer, or in the form of complete control of a single channel. NoInputMixer is a universal application for iOS and macOS. It can work on iPhone and iPad as well as Mac / MacBook with M1 chip (and later). NoInputMixer works on iPhone and iPad standalone, as an Audio Unit or Inter-App Audio module, and supports Audiobus and Ableton Link. On MacOS, NoInputMixer can works both as a standalone application and as an Audio unit (AUv3) with DAWs and other hosts that support AUv3 plugins. All application features are available on iOS and macOS, including MIDI support (with a MIDI learn option) and audio unit parameters. NoInputMixer has a built-in detailed description of all parameters also available as PDF file on the application site. He still fails to use the whole screen on the iPhone and he keeps the same font to UI size ratio so all the text is absolutely impossible to read. Lazy bozo is what you are. Never again will I waste my hard earned money on your backwards UI font design. It’s impossible to use on an iPhone 12. Just a play backwards designed UI with impossible to read font and impossible to use the MORE menu as it can’t be read. And your user is black font on a dark gray background. Incredibly dumb. You want easier to read, not harder dummy. Drooping World IQs and it shows. Sunvox is infinitely more enjoyable.

I've been using Igor's apps since Synthscaper blew me away with sampled sound manipulation, destruction, and redevelopment. Each one has its own niche area within this overall area of audio and music technology, and this one is no different. It's got a bit of a learning curve, and as with Beatcutter (still my favorite iOS audio app), you'll want to have its output piped into a recorder so you don't miss anything. But, it's much simpler than Beatcutter to get your head wrapped around. To begin with, pull up a few faders, and then explore the FX sends/returns and built-in FX suite. This app can make a boring old flanger effect sound like noise-raindrops falling randomly (or not) on a tightly tuned drumhead made of water, that is turning to steam. And I love the geiger counter LFO (hint - it rarely sounds like a geiger counter). This will be another great tool for sound designers and noise-rockers. But it can also be used to generate noisy parts of synth pads and textures. Back in the day (80's), we used long tape loops made with microphone stands placed several feet away from the recorder so we could get many feet of tape in a loop, and use recordings of single sine waves fed into the channels, then fed-back into each other via the aux sends/returns. These simple tones would then turn into crazy noise-scapes. With this app, you can do that, plus a million different options and FX that can be recirculated through the app. Another fantastic app!!
  • Needs a couple things to be 5 stars

I own every app by Igor and SoundScaper is still the best one imo. NoInputMixer needs the ability to change visible controls when in single channel view. My other two wishlist items would be some kind of matrix view to see what is connected to where, and two would be the ability to record and see automation. A great start though!

This dev continues to makes the most unique apps for iOS music creation. This is likely the best pure noisemaker in the store. Looking forward to creating with this for a long time. Ty Igor

Today is my first time reviewing an app on the App Store. Experimentation, finding new sounds, and the ambient field of musical expression is where I find myself. So, this app and others from you, Igor, are welcome territory. The Op-Amp “fuzz” quality is particularly pleasing. There is nothing like this app available outside of actual, physical mixers feeding back into each other (and at the potential destruction of said mixers). Thank you Igor, for developing such unique apps. All the best to you and yours! Cheers! 😊
