Description

High Country Apps is proud to support the Colorado Native Plant Society (www.conps.org) through donations and providing the Colorado Rocky Mountain Wildflowers app for their educational and advocacy work. Colorado Rocky Mountain Wildflowers presents more than 500 wildflowers, shrubs, trees, and ferns of the Colorado Rockies and Greater Rocky Mountain Area. Designed for expert and beginner alike, this guide presents each species in a clear, informative format that provides photos and illustrations of the plant, an easily understood description, distinctive field marks, preferred habitats, and tidbits on the plant’s ecology and cultural use. An innovative, easy-to-use key allows the user to select flower color, leaf type, and other characteristics to quickly identify unknown plants. You are on a hike, look down and see a flower with yellow petals and opposite leaves but don’t know its name. It could be tall and thorny, sticky with black berries, sweet-smelling with square stems. Just select what you do know on the app and all plants matching your description will be shown. Photographs and information used by the app are stored locally, making the app available to use with or without a data connection. The app covers the Colorado Rocky Mountains from the foothills to the alpine zone and although we show you a few plants found exclusively in Colorado, the vast majority of the plants shown can also be found through the Rockies of Montana, Wyoming, and New Mexico. We have been careful to include the most abundant and visible plants and also those less common but found in unusual habitats, such as, wetlands, ponds, and rocky slopes. We have also chosen species from various altitudes, from 85 families and 200 genera, and from all geographic locations -- East Slope, West Slope, and the mountains between. We hope this app increases your enthusiasm for the plants that give us all life and inspiration. Revel in the wildflowers and infect others with your love of the land.

I bought this app to identify flowers in Crested Butte last week. Crested Butte is the "Wildflower Capital of Colorado." None of the flowers in the field were even on the app. Otherwise, it could be prettier but I'd be happy with it if it was simply comprehensive.
  • I thought it would be better...

Pay 10 smackers for a wildflower guide? It had be better than the free ones you can get for california and oregon. It’s not and it’s interface is a worse version of the free ones. I downloaded to identify a thistle I ran into and it didn’t have many of the possible thistles in the database! I just googled it! it’s a plumeless! At least add all the noxious weeds.

I tested the app out by searching for a blanketflower. When I chose the characteristics I could only choose one color and not multiples. I could not find it by choosing orange or red. I was only able to find this flower when choosing yellow. Many of the gaillardia’s I see are mostly red or orange. It would be really nice if I could choose both colors, but the app won’t allow that. Many Colorado flowers, like the columbine and blanket flower, have more than one color. Even in the tidbit description multiple color characteristics are chosen. The browse section is nice but the search function doesn’t work well.

I live in the mountains of north central AZ. Excellent pick by characteristics app. I can get close to the scientific name/ family of plant but not exactly the one I'm looking at. Recommend to anyone in the Four Corners Area.

I have only used this app once but of the four different flowers I searched for it had all four. It has multiple pics of each flower which is great to better identify that you have an accurate match. As a photographer I was always interested in more info on the flowers I was shooting and this makes it extremely easy to locate them and learn more about them. It also has a "Favorite" feature so I can log all the plants I have photographed.

I am an author of Wildflowers Along the Way, an app for Appalachian mountain plants. I'm heading for CO next week and want to be able to focus on flowers likely to be blooming in September. Books aren't searchable for bloom times. I downloaded the preview of this app and am impressed with the organization and quantity of information. I immediately started the upgrade to the full version. I'll use it for identification and for a good read on the plane.
  • Can’t find many flowers

Bought based on reviews. Idea is good but have taken 2 separate hikes in Summit county with so many beautiful wildflowers. App only finds a few of them even when my only criteria is flower and color. This should give me a large choice but still unable to find many on them. Wanted to use app instead of carrying a book but will need to go back to a book.

Easy to use, extensive, accurate. More than wildflowers with some trees, ferns etc. Worth the price to have this much information in your pocket. Kudos to the developers.

I love this! Now I don't have to wonder what I am seeing. It is great to id a flower or tree on the spot. The tidbits are helpful as well as descriptions. Thank you!
