Description

The Bach Cantatas app allows you to catalog the cantatas of Johann Sebastian Bach you have in your music collection. Cantatas is a handy database of Johann Sebastian Bach's Cantatas and the many versions of them which have been recorded. The database lists all BWV numbers (BWV 1 until BWV 215), cantata titles and year of composition. You can indicate the recordings you have in your collection. Basic information for each cantata and recording is available, and you can add your own notes. You can also export your collection or missing titles to .CSV format. If you love Bach, download this app today. Supports iCloud and optimised for iOS 11 and up.

I had been accumulating recordings of some of the cantatas and was already in need of some way to keep track of my library. This app is easy to use and does just what I need. I really like the way it links into the Wikipedia page for each work. Nicely done!

My collection of Bach choral works was more an accumulation of fifty years … some still on LPs (remember those?). After a month of using this App, and a few purchases to bring me up-to-date, I now have a collection … and multiple playlists of my favorites. This App has encouraged me to attack the Cantatas to discover new stuff that until now had been hidden … to me the mountain always had seemed beyond reach. But now I see my collection as a source. And this App is a huge help. It functions exactly as described. One caution I offer: if you install on both iPad and iPhone, do all your data entry on one device and let the other device get its data from iCloud. Initially I was sloppy and entered data on which ever device was handy … perhaps that confused iCloud or whoever manages the data. I learned that lesson early on and only experienced that one false start. Now I do all my data entry on my iPhone and my iPad is in lock step via iCloud. No other hiccups. Great App … five stars (plus excellent support from Alco Blom).
