Description

Drill yourself on the most common vocabulary words from your French courses and from everyday French conversation. Boost your vocab FASTER than with any other app on iTunes. Applying the latest in cognitive science, Brainscape introduces vocabulary words in order from most foundational to most complex, and repeats them in a pattern that is just right for YOUR brain. Rather than creating frivolous games or distracting quizzes to try to make learning “fun,” Brainscape provides a scientifically optimized algorithm to repeat flashcards in just the right pattern for your brain’s maximum absorption, based on YOUR confidence. Brainscape makes sure that your study time is used as efficiently as possible, because – let’s face it – you are busy! Learn French Vocabulary includes: • Nearly 3,000 AUDIO flashcards composed of the most important words in French– carefully ordered from most foundational to most complex (unlike other vocab apps, which simply dump words into “themes” with no sense of progression) • Hundreds of key phrases that will help you survive better on the streets of – wherever! • A customized flashcard repetition algorithm that cuts your memorization time dramatically • Convenient “browse” and “search” functions that allow you to easily find cards you want • Ongoing feedback, statistics, and visualization tools to help you track your progress The Brainscape team is made up of cognitive scientists and language specialists formerly with Columbia and Yale, as well as former executives from The Princeton Review and Kaplan. Our mission is to make learning easier and more convenient. Feel free to check out our website, and good luck studying!

Tiny quantity of free content before requiring very expensive upgrades. Forced ti create an account. No way to delete the account.
  • Decent App but Hard to Memorize Words

There is no writing function which would help a lot. Would be nice to see the word and then have to type out the correct answer. Then you could rate how well you knew it. Just seeing the word makes it hard to memorize and study.
  • Old App not updated

This app hasn't been updated in 4 years now, which is probably why I'm unable to sign in using facebook as that throws errors. Can't recommend this app without being able to sign in.

The app is really confusing, wants all kinds of personal info to “make an account” before even using the app then when you get on it want you to make your own flash cards. That is not what I wanted.
  • Find something better

The first thing that annoyed me about this app is that every time I open it a message pops up telling me “Before upgrading the Brainscape app, sync your content . . .” I click “dismiss” but this is pointless because it immediately comes back. It kind of feels like they are trying to bully me into upgrading by pushing this message on me constantly (I’ll pay you anything! Just make the message go away!) And when I push “sync” in an attempt to make the message go away it takes me to a page that does not include any obvious way to sync. And why would I upgrade? These flashcards are a mess. Sometimes a word can have several meanings, but they often don’t let you know which one the card is looking for. Also, sometimes the audio they have to help you learn to pronounce the words you are learning DOES NOT MATCH WHAT IS WRITTEN ON THE SCREEN. So shoddy. Also, every other French language flashcard I have ever used uses “le” and “la” to indicate masculine or feminine. This app mostly uses “un” and “une” and I guess that works as well, but since it’s not what I’m used to I find it irritating.

Be up front about this in the app listing. Immediately requires email or Facebook login. Wasting my time = 1 star review.
