  • Apple TV app needs some love

I can’t direct play a 4k file to my Apple TV because the captions are in PGS format, even though the Apple TV supports that format. The same file works just fine in Plex on iOS. It also works just fine when played in Infuse on Apple TV. So something is obviously off with Plex on Apple TV. Yes, this review is for the iOS app, which I said works fine. But the problem is, if I can’t use the Apple TV app, then there is little reason to use the iOS app. I want a single library and single interface to manage and play my library. I don’t want to juggle multiple apps, multiple accounts, across devices just because Plex can’t handle something on Apple TV.

So my dad set it up so we could play our favorite movies and tv shows and our favorite music but THEN this Plex expansion came out and now I keep getting pop up notifications being like “Oh hey ya you can’t play music on Plex amp and on Plex at the same time…. So bye are expansion only 4.99!” But overall before Plex plus or whatever it was the best I could watch avatar the last air bender all day while I was sick so it’s awesome.

I don’t like that you can’t watch that many shows and movies 😡😤🤬👿
  • PLEASE make it not get closed in the background

Every time I cast to my TV, if I leave the app for even a moment (especially if I pause it) the app gets killed in the background and I have to reopen it and reconnect it to my TV. PLEASE do something about this, it’s my only complaint.

I prefer this over alternatives due to the quality of it’s user interface, consistency across devices, and wide compatibility. Plex is easy enough to use that I can get the whole family using it. I also have no problem finding subtitles for popular shows in other languages which is a nice plus. It’s outstanding quality with frequent updates and it’s easy to use compared to alternatives.
  • Hands Down Best Streaming Experience

I got tired of paying to stream the feel good shows while having box sets collect dust in my closet. I paid for the mobile app streaming and the user experience is so far beyond anything the big streaming companies offer. After I finish digitizing my collection, I will pay for a premium subscription to enable the skip intro feature. My only gripe is that the tv show theme songs should be set off by default. I’ve known of Plex for years and never took the plunge on trying. Not only is it accessible, but the community is welcoming and seems to want new users.
  • Dear lord, how far we’ve fallen

the ‘your media your way’ is a distant memory. The core functionality of playing your media has taken a distant back seat to streaming ad supported and subscription services and pimping your info to ad services and trying to sell some pretty bad product ideas to ‘our’ shares. 5 years ago I would’ve,said Plex was the technology that made the biggest impact in my house and the fact friends and family could watch it was unbelievable. Now the server owners are simply a delivery system of people (our shares) to monetize their wares too. It’s been years since the server owners were their target audience. Not sarcastic- I’d pay a sub to remove the inundated non stop crud and let us actually admin the server-client. There has to be a price where this makes sense, find out and offer it. Ps- the reviews are funny bc 90% have no idea what it was originally made for. The day Emby gets it GUI a little nicer (plex gui is much slicker) but that’s where it ends.

They’ve gone from “host your own stuff” to “we are now the gatekeeper to it all”. Wanna be Netflix but you supply the product. Not what it used to be. Useless without internet.
