HVAC Pipe Sizer - Liquid

HVAC Pipe Sizer - Liquid

By Carmel Software Corporation

Description

The "HVAC Pipe Sizer - Liquid" application allows you to quickly size a simple pipe system by inputting a number of piping and liquid properties, including hot and chilled water (hydronic). This app is a universal app that works on both the iPhone and iPad and adjusts its screen size accordingly. This app now includes the HVAC Equipment Locator. Click here for details: http://bit.ly/1yTq539 You can specify the total fluid flow in GPM (or L/s) and one of either unit head loss (ft/100ft), pipe internal diameter (inches) or fluid velocity (ft/s) parameters. The results include both the exact and nominal pipe diameters and the calculated velocity and total head loss. If you are analyzing an existing pipe system, there is an option to input the existing pipe internal diameter and one of either unit head loss or fluid velocity parameters to derive the calculated fluid flow and other remaining properties. You can specify additional parameters such as the type of liquid, various properties of the liquid, the pipe material type, the total length of pipe, quantities for up to 11 different types of pipe fittings, and much more. You can also choose to display values in either english or metric units. This application includes built-in pipe fitting equivalent length and nominal pipe sizing tables for a wide variety of pipe material types and diameters. This application uses slider controls that allow you to quickly increment or decrement the input values and immediately observe the calculated results. You can also manually input exact values. The app allows you to email inputs and results once you have completed an analysis. This app now includes the HVAC Equipment Locator. • Pretty good piping program

I have been amazed to find this program on the iPhone. While it's not a full blown piping program it never the less gives accurate results for the times I've used it. Just input the basic info such as pipe diameter number and types of fittings, fluid type and it will tell you flow. Or you can use it to find diameter required for a flow. The only issues I have with it are: pressure drop is always given in ft instead of psi. Also it would be really nice if it had a table of pipe sizes to aid data entry. Give me these simple changes and I'll give you 5 stars.

Nice little app for the office when I don't feel like booting up my laptop. I wish there were more nominal pipe sizes in the database though. Maybe the next version?
  • I like the update.

The update looks good. I like the ability to increment values by a certain amount as you move the slider control.
  • Great app.

I like the simple interface for designing hydronic systems. The calcs appear very accurate after doing some comparisons with my engineering books.
  • Wrong calcs!!!

I don't need this app, I bought it to see how actually they built this hvac app, and I have to say it's poor work. This souls be very simple calcs and formulas. I tested the app with copper L pipe, fixed pipe diameter, flow and length, and keep changing fittings which should change the total head loss. Surprise!!!! It's doesn't. So they got the internal formulas or functions wrong. I will not trust this app calcs to size any system. For people who actually worked on this. Please pay some more attention when you build and sell apps. It's just not about releasing an app, it's something people will pay for and expect to get some trusted result.
