Disappointed

For the developers that bother reading reviews: Squadbusters has a severe cheating problem that neeeds addressing. If it’s not cheating, it’s just trolls attacking you, and destroying both my game and theirs. After all, if you don’t have a ticket, losing costs you nothing. If you’re a kid with nothing to lose, you can sabotage games all day. For everyone else that cares: Below is the review I wrote when I first downloaded Squadbusters. This game is a bad joke, and I had zero interest in playing Squadbusters, but when my kids love a game, that means I gotta pretend to like it. I’ve been playing video games since 1980. That means I have a ton of experience. So, If I love, or play a game a lot, then, I’ll get pretty good at the game. Not Squadbusters. I’ve never had such inconsistent performances at any game. Im pretty sure much of this inconsistency comes from developers manipulating my game because they think it will make me spend money on their game. Well, it won’t. I’ll just take up some of Supercells data. It’s ok, they can affford it, as those manipulations bring in plenty of money, mostly from naive kids. Supercell should be ashamed. They didn’t use these types of tactics a few years ago. Greed…..it’s absolutely killing our world. I first downloaded this game on a Saturday morning about a week after it was released. It was an easy choice, as it was free, and Supercell is one of the best Mobile Gaming Developers. Or, should I say “was one of the best mobile gaming companies”? By Saturday afternoon, I wrote a review, deleted the game and proceeded to forget it ever existed. It was easy to do, as I had 2 other games on my device just like it. All Supercell did was take an old idea and fill it with their intellectual property(characters, etc.). The first major issue is the controls. They are horrible, and that’s not an exaggeration. It’s hard to believe a huge company could release a game with broke controls in 2024. The control issues often cause your character get stuck, because the acceleration is so slow. So, how do they deal with horrible control issues? Do they fix it? No. Do they cover it up? Yes. How? Well, some of the maps are on ice. So, they can say…”that’s not bad controls, your character is slipping on ice.” Then, there is the lag. “What lag”, you ask, “I’ve never had lag issues on Squadbusters”. Yes, you have, you just don’t know it. They cover up that lag with a “turbo button”. For example, very often, you can’t get your character moving from a stand still, because acceleration is so slow due to the bad controls. Inevitably, another player kills you while you are a sitting duck. You might believe you were at fault for running out of turbo, when in reality, you ran into game caused lag, especially when you ran into that area on the map where too many players just happened to congregate. That’s when this game turns into an epic mess. For some odd reason, the Squadbuster developers decided to exacerbate the games gameplay weaknesses, instead of trying to figure out ways to avoid the gameplay issues. For example, just moving all your players cohesively shouldn’t be a challenge, but it often is. Why make movement worse with ice covered floors, or traps that cause your guys to get separated? I like challenges. Trying to move around a corner with my squad intact isn’t the kind of thing that should be challenging. All this makes figuring out why you lost, or won, next to impossible. How can you improve at a game, when you can’t figure how,or why you lost? This game is only slightly “skill based”. It’s mostly a luck based game, like playing poker. Sure, your poker skills can improve your odds of winning, but, without a decent hand, you probably aren’t winning, as skill can only overcome so much. Figuring out why you won/list against 1 opponent is impossible, much less if you are in a fight with more than 1. Theres no damage indicators, and you can’t see who is hitting who. The “health bar” which is a circle, is pathetic. Perhaps….that’s why Supercell doesn’t offer replay options, like in most their other games. Even when I record the game and rewatch, I can’t tell what’s going on. The biggest factor for winning/losing happens before the game starts. You don’t have access to all your characters, only a portion. If you don’t have supply characters or healers in certain maps/modes, then, you aren’t winning first place. If you’re lucky, you’ll finish in top 5 to keep your “streak intact” even though, that’s worthless unless you have 20 top 5 finishes in a row. I was able to do that when I first started. The more I play of this game, the worse I get.
