This game is a stripped down arcade version of their mobile racing game of the same name. The game does mostly hold up well considering it's been around for a decade or so, but it just feels like Gameloft doesn't do much to fix bugs and glitches. It's one of the very few "premium" brand games on Apple Arcade, and I suppose it might be a pretty big draw to get people to subscribe to the Arcade service, but there's still a lot to be desired with this game. There are several known bugs and glitches that players have been complaining about for well over a year and Gameloft support has done nothing to fix. One of the biggest being the missing upgrade cards for the Corvette Stingray. Players have complained about how they're getting shorted on 5 cards to fully upgrade the vehicle, but nothing has been done. There's also some serious inconsistencies with the performance stats of each vehicle. Not sure how 2 identical cars at identical ranks can travel at significantly different speeds during World Series, but sometimes I go faster than identical vehicles and sometimes I go slower. There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to why. The World Series is also full of bugs. The game requires at least 4 players to start a race, but it will often put 2 players in one waiting room and 2 players in another. Why? On the rare event that you actually get 7 or 8 people all playing at the same time, the game will create even more rooms. There isn't a very big player base to begin with. There MIGHT be 100 or so players globally who play this on a daily basis, so the volume simply isn't there to warrant creating multiple waiting rooms for races. I'm just glad that the Apple Arcade is basically a throw-in feature of the Apple One subscription. If this game is the "best" of what they have to offer, no way I'd actually subscribe specifically to this service. Don't get me wrong, it's still a decent game, but it's clear that Gameloft isn't really concerned with maintaining it at all. In comparison to their mobile app, this game would easily be worth the monthly subscription if it simply functioned properly.

I previously wrote an extremely positive review for this game, and my opinion hasn’t changed much, however I have noticed some things this game is missing. First, I would love to be able to play the gamemode with power ups from the events in quick race. Second, I think some more customisation abilities for quick race are in order. For example, it would be cool if we could customise what the opponents cars are. Perhaps this would remove the possibility of collecting coins, as you could easily get them otherwise, but still it would be really cool.

This game is good but needs to be updated more often. That’s all. Nothing else to complain about.

I got this to play with my son on appletv and iOS. Took forever to get us to see each other In the app. We can’t play head to head. I see the online start a room, been through all that and it doesn’t exist, not good
  • It’s fun… until it isn’t. (TLDR at end)

*Been playing since December 2023 due to some personal circumstances that barred me from using my actual gaming PC, which I’ve resorted to mobile gaming since. I’ve had a jab at Asphalt games in the past but this is the only one I’ve spent most of my time with.* Single-player aspects like career mode and quick race are what you’d expect from a quality mobile arcade racer, but once you finish up with that and move into multiplayer it goes downhill fairly quickly. Once you max out most of everything there isn’t much to do and it gets boring/repetitive real quick. Not to mention that there is tedious to almost nigh impossible grinding involved if you were to fully commit yourself to the multiplayer modes (most of which is plagued by cheaters who I’m assuming are playing from the regular freemium A8 since there’s no way for me to confirm that A8+ has dedicated Apple Arcade servers). Don’t wanna do multiplayer and just want an instant remedy for that arcade racing itch? Well you have Quick race, but as I said before you run into a wall once you finish out the career. You can’t really customize quick races outside of the map, race type and class. You can’t set AI difficulty, you can’t see lap times, nada. It’s easy to shoot past the pack in pretty much any car, regardless of class. So yeah, I’d say that you’ll have some amount of fun with this but after a certain point things are gonna get boring real quick. I know that options for quality racers, especially on the mobile front are really limited, but if you want to stay sane and avoid this mess I’d personally recommend looking at other Arcade options such as Gearclub or Demolition Racer, and since you’re paying for Arcade you might as well look at spending some cash on GRID, Rush Rally, Mudrunner, and if you’re really desperate, Wreckfest. You could also cross your fingers and wish that Gameloft got one of their sub studios to actually work on A8+, maybe even drop A9+… yeah. Keep dreaming. (For crying out loud, you’re better off emulating at this point!) For now, this one’s gonna stay offloaded. TLDR: Kills time for the first handful of sessions but hits rock bottom after you’ve explored most of what the game has to offer, multiplayer isn’t any better as it’s intertwined with grinding and cheaters. Look for something else unless you happen to be out of options.

It just is. Simply put, It's the vision the developers wanted from day 1. This is Asphalt 8. And it's the only way to play, in my opinion.
  • STILL… NOPE.

2/14/2024 Several years… and my review for this game is still EXACTLY the same. This game has been deleted… again. 7/5/2022 I had company over, and we all wanted to play a racing game. After downloading this game on my tv and getting through the tutorial, nothing but problems arose. The game CONSTANTLY crashes. As soon as a race begins, there’s a crackling sound, then… CRASH. I tried off-loading/re-loading the game. Nope. I re-started my Wi-Fi network. Nothing. Un-installed/re-installed the game. No hope. I read some of the reviews and noticed others were having issues with this game, also. On top of that, we realized this is one of those crappy “grinder” games (on a premium game service), which we refuse play. And, I should’ve realized that since this is the path that Gameloft has been going down for a while. I really hate that Apple is even allowing these kind of games on Apple Arcade; it really tarnishes the reason people were excited for Apple Arcade in the first place: no ads, no data collection, no “in-app purchases“ (which is what this game is mimicking), and the ability to play across all of your Apple devices. This game has been deleted.
