  • NO free features at all

It claims to be free, with in-app purchases. However, it's hard to call it free when there are ZERO features available until you pay them a subscription fee. Software is useless without the subscription, so I would say this is NOT free. Downloading bits for free that offer you zero benefit is just a waste of time. I hope others rate this a 1. When I saw free with in-app purchases, I assumed unzip would be standard, and maybe zipping without encryption, because you can reasonably charge for some advanced features. But whan ALL features cost money, it's trash, even if it might work when paid for. They should charge money up front, rather than calling it free. That way, you know you have no functions until you pay. I'm unwilling to pay when they said it was free, so I can only assume that it might work. But not seeing how it works, it's useless, and thus gets the lowest rating I can give.
  • WinZip won't do anything and won't update

I have the purchased version of WinZip for Mac, and it used to be ok with previous OS versions. Now, however, the WinZip App will appear to open and recognize zip files, but I found that it will no longer actually do anything with them ... it just sits there. It cannot unzip standard files that the "free" Apps from other companies have no trouble with. When I check for updates, WinZip tells me that I already have the latest version. When I try to download a fresh copy of the WinZip software to reinstall, it will not accept my license key and attempts to get me to pay for it a 2nd time! What a waste of money!
  • It's not free, but it works pretty well

I am working with someone who has to use this for some reason, and I could not find anything else that could open their encrypted zip files. I am offended by any software that you have to lease (I am old that way), but if you accept that you will have to pay monthly, then it is pretty reliable and easy to use (once you get used to it). Once this project is over, I will cancel the subscription until I need it again. Not sure why it was required, but I don't have much choice on this one.

WinZIP wants you to pay for a monthy subscription to UnZip your files. Let that sink in for a moment. You cannot do anything with their FREE download until you start a subscription trial, which launches you into monthy fees after the short trial ends, and its almost impossible to cancel! Your mac can already zip and unzip files for free, this app just gives you a few more features. But a monthly subscription for this? THIS IS THE STUPIDEST monthy subscription I have ever seen. ARE THEY INSAINE????!!!!!!

Unlike what the installer says, which is to cancel the subscription within the app, you have to go to Apple Music, access your Apple Account, go to Manage subsciptions, and unsubscibe from there. At least Apple made it easy, apparently they know this happens a lot, so they send you an email letting you know it was purchased, and a link to cancel the subscription. Still, this is not what was expected. I removed my previous rating and updated it with this new knowledge after I got the email from Apple. Always read the bad reviews before purchase, buyer beware.

Just put a price on the product if you insist on charging, instead of making us waste time downloading, opening and then finding out we have to sign-up for a subscription before we can run it at all.

WinZip, initially introduced 32 years ago in 1991 by Nico Mak as shareware, has sadly transformed into a tool for exploitation under the guise of this so-called developer, WinZip Computing LLC, with the complicity of Apple Inc. The scheme orchestrated by Apple to enable this yearly price gouging deception, achieved by disabling previous versions, demands a thorough investigation by the Justice Department.
