Description

DICOM QuickLook by OsiriX is a simple application that can display any DICOM files. Did you pass a CT (scanner) exam or a MRI (magnetic resonance) exam recently? All these equipments produce images in DICOM format. A DICOM file is similar to a JPEG file, but with specifications for medical imaging. That means that a file of a chest x-ray image, for example, actually contains the patient name and patient ID within the file, so that the image can never be separated from this information by mistake. This is similar to the way that image formats such as JPEG can also have embedded tags to identify and otherwise describe the image. You can ask your doctor or the imaging center to provide you a CD/DVD or a USB stick with the images, in DICOM format. This small application with the QuickLook plugin is the ideal companion for your DICOM viewer application. OsiriX, a complete DICOM viewer application, is available on our web site: https://www.osirix-viewer.com. OsiriX MD is certified as a Class II medical device, by the FDA and European Union.

Doesn't work at all, do not spend money here. May be even a ripoff, needs not to be available in the app store.
  • I was wrong.

The app does work after all! For each file to be viewed, drag-and-drop it to the screen that opens when the app is opened. That's all.

For 5.99, they could add a little more functionality, this is a rip off.

Radiologist gave files without DICOM extension--IM000001 instead of IM000001.dcm. They would not open in Finder although it worked OK in the app... I batch renamed all files to add the .dcm extension. Afterwards, all files could be viewed in the Finder--I used the Quick Look command in the drop-down contextual menu to scroll through the shots quickly. So you have to perform an extra preliminary step but it ultimately works well.

This quick look application does not function correctly. It likely could function well judging from the screenshots but because there is absolutely no documentation on how to get this piece of software to work it may as well be non-functional. At $6 Osirix is essentially stealing your money with this application, this application should be free (it worked). But as of now it is not even worth downloading. To Osirix: please provide documentation on how to make sure this plays nicely with OSX quicklook. It’s possible that all users need to do is enable the software in their settings for quicklook but since you have provided no documentation on how to do this it is not possible. I am willing to change the review if documentation is provided. You have responded to commenters in the past so I am hopeful.

App opened DICOM files quickly into Finder. No problems or issues. Very helpful and worth the price.
