Description

FiveNotes (formerly known as Quick) is a small text editor that you can always access by clicking (or pressing shortcut keys) on its Status bar icon. Even if you're working on a full screen app. If you prefer, it can stay on top of the window, so it can be used as a cheat-sheet app. FiveNotes offers exactly 5 notes that can be switched using colourful circles under the text area or by pressing shortcut (cmd+shift+[ and cmd+shift+] or cmd+number of note). Application supports basic markdown formatting so your notes are clear. FiveNotes markdown includes headers, bold and italic text, quotes and lists (started with * or - character). It's a great app for people who create small text files to write simple, temporary notes. You don't have to worry about files, their names and saving them. What you write in FiveNotes, it remains there. If you need to write something quickly (for example a phone number) just open FiveNotes and write it.

Simple to access, but quite limited. You can only increase the height of the note-taking area, and even then, it's not large. It's truly meant for the shortest of short notes. If your note fills the note-taking area, the lag time between your typing and the text showing in the note becomes noticeable. The more you type, the worse the lag becomes. I was hoping for something more flexible, especially since this app supports markdown. A note with no markdown to parse and just 314 words made this app so slow it became almost completely unusable.

Excellent app. A simple note-pad for the menu-bar. Very well designed, clean, nice colors, UI, and keyboard commands to open and cycle through the notes. Good icon, important for a menu-bar app, because it's always visible. I happen to love the font, but that's subjective, and font should be a user selection. I'd LOVE to see a way to SYNC the 5 notes to iOS - either in a companion app, or as a Folder in the ios Notes app, which has all 5 notes from thsi app.
