Description

Ad And Stuff Blocker is an ad blocker extension for Safari. It is as simple as can be with no configuration - it just blocks ads. After it starts, a plain white window will come up and tell you that you are ready to start browsing. You can add URLs to the whitelist or close out that window and should never have to rerun the app unless you uninstall and reinstall Safari or OS X or you upgrade the app. Unlike other other ad blockers that are not extensions, Browsing with Ad And Stuff Blocker is at least as fast as browsing without it - even faster if the page normally has lots of ads. We will never accept donations to whitelist ads. Ad And Stuff Blocker now supports a user created whitelist and heavy duty ad blocking support for popular porn sites.

The new update that was installed on 1/17/21 now allows all ads to be installed in all of the websites that I have on my computer. The update installed in seconds instead of minutes but rendered this function totally useless. I contacted maker and he stated to me that it was my computer etc that was the problem. While this worked well for me for over a years time, the updates don’t help and eventually with this update rendered the softwear useless. I would not recommend installing this. Find another one.

Since upgrading to Safari 13, I've been looking for a good ad blocker that's compatible with the new system. Other ad blockers I've tried have needed to leave a process running, or put junk in my menu bar. And then they still didn't block most of the ads I saw. This one is small (only 1.5 MB), simple (no background process or menu bar junk), and works. What else is there? Admittedly the one window it has is rather clunky. (You have to click to change the README into a list, click in the list to focus it, click Apply, and then click Ok.) It'd be nice if it reported when the "rebuilding" was complete, too (update: it's only a couple seconds). The developer is very responsive to reviews and emails, and wants to know about sites that don't work right, so they can be fixed in the next version. UPDATE: After using this for a while, I'm lowering the rating to 4. It's still pretty good out-of-the-box, but the more I use it, the more I need to add exceptions. Realistically, I'm not going to email the maintainer every day and then wait for updates to be released. It really needs better support for adding permanent exceptions, like a nicer UI, and an easy way to share our lists online with others. I still use it, though, and it's good at what it does. I just wish it went a little bit further.

So the last ad-blocker that I used which is named apporiately ad-block but everytime I went on youtube, some videos would have a content id error so it turns out it was the ad block that was causing all this. So today I downloaded this to see if this was better and for the first time, it worked well like I didn’t get stopped by ads while watching youtube videos. However when I watching video by video, I noticed every profile picture on the Youtube comment section don’t appear at all and sometimes I would get an ad on a video but it would play no ads yet act like there was an ad playing. I’m going to uninstall this even if it means going back to my original Adblock or Adblock plus untill this problem is fixed.

I was looking for an ad blocker for my older laptop running on 10.11 for my kid’s homeschool/remote learning and I read the descriptions of all the ad blockers in the app store before I found this one. I was like “Great! It says it runs on 10.11 and newer so lets get this installed and start blocking ads, and save some money by not having to buy a new laptop!” NOPE! Once you install it, even though the picture says go to preferences > extensions and enable the extension, it is not there! There is nothing to be enabled, because this app doesn’t work as described. Doesn’t work = 1 star Now I have to try and sell this older laptop and get an iPad for my kid’s schoolwork.
  • It works

It’s updated so it works with YT again. Notably lacking white listing features. If it breaks one of the websites you rely on, you have to disable it completely every time you want to use that website.

Very happy with the app. Surprised something works so well despite Safari’s new (security-oriented and sadly necessary due to bad actors) restrictions. Jesus-Approved™️! PS: Can we PayPal you a donation at the ‘contact us’ address on your site? I owe you for your great response to my boneheaded support question!

I use MacOS High Sierra (10.13.6) with Safari 13.1.1 (13609.2.9.1.3). I like this adblock but, unfortunatley, it doesn’t work on monetized YT videos. Showing black screen without ability to hit play button. Refreshing the page doesn’t help either (only if I turn off this extension but it defeats the purpose of using it). I hope it will be better in the future. All the best to the developer!
