You can keep the 15 bucks… but I am NOT using this program because it scrambles old AppleWorks draw files…. My IMAC is now at the point that Microsoft keeps telling me to upgrade my OS… but I am running 10.13.6…. We need programs like this that WORK!! I have taken screenshots of the before and after… (car wreck.) Andy Harper.

Anyone of a certain age will have a lot of work saved in various programs that have gone the way of the dodo. And anyone of a certain age will have converted some of those old files using programs that are now defunct themselves. Tempus fugit! Document Converter is the best converter I've ever used, it's simple, swift, fail-safe, and a great ally in the war against the attritions of time.

I had several hundred of my mom's genealogy files from 1984 to 2004 and had tried a half a dozen other applications which produced unsatisfactory results. Most apps extracted the text, but no formatting or fonts or metadata. Leading whitespace was usually awful since my mom used an inconsistent mixture of tabs and spaces with unknown tab stops. I had pretty much given up after writing my own code to extract just the text when I stumbled across this app while looking for a Claris Works converter in the Mac App Store. I risked purchasing this app and within a a few minutes had all of the old MS Word 4 and 5 and Claris Works and a few misc formats all accurately converted, including the metadata, where available, such as the date it was edited, time spent editing, etc. I am very very surprised and pleased.
  • Excellent, very helpful, app

I use it for .doc to .docx and .xls to .xlsx conversion. Very fast, accurate and the interface is very intuitive. A pleasure to work with. The only thing that would make it better for me is for it to recognize the file type without the file extensions. I have a large number of files that I have to manually add the extensions I had removed some years ago as Apple recognizes the files without them.

I have been using this to convert 100s of documents. If you receive any error, like 1 file of 150 couldn't be processed, the other 149 were not processed either. It also doesn't seem to like more than 300 docs at a time. I would love to drop files in the app and be sure that they all converted correctly. Instead, I do small sets and spot check, and occasionally find entire batches weren't processed. But it does work 90% beautifully and even being able to drop 150 files in it and spot check is a bit better than the competition. I just wish I didn't have to double check.
