It seems like it only works if you stay on budget. If you don’t, then your projected budget means nothing. Your “safe to spend” means nothing. What is the point of connecting to my bank if you cannot use the information from it to adjust accordingly? There isn’t anywhere in the app where I can look and see anything in real time. Let’s say I overspend on groceries. Cool, you can see a negative -$244 in red in the groceries budget section. Does it take that information and adjust your paycheck planning? No. I don’t know what to do with the information it gives me because I feel like it isn’t helpful. What does it matter if I can see that I’ve overspent in each individual section if I cannot see how that affects my upcoming budgets? I want to know that by overspending in groceries I now don’t have enough projected income to pay my phone bill. I want to see after sorting all the transactions into their correct category how that changes my paycheck planning. It showed this month that I was at a low risk of overspending. In reality I barely have enough to pay rent. The paycheck planning shows “the me I wish I was” and not “the me I am right now”. So I can’t trust it, like at all. When I do the calculations by hand, I can see that very easily. I just take the amount in my bank account and subtract the bills and budgets coming up this month. Why is that not possible?

The horrible lag in banking updates (days at a time) is enough on its own to make me not use app. Its almost, but not user friendly. It’s just not. Desktop, phone, iPad. I found myself frustrated many times over having to study to understand verbiage, color codes and functions. They overcomplicated things which could’ve been made simple… Compared to the app I went with, this one takes an unreasonable amount of time to understand. And I went all in updating all my numbers, bills etc. I put at least 6hrs into it. Gave it a real shot. I just didn’t like it.. The banking lag, the lack of user friendliness and the price point which is higher then what I choose to go with pushed me out… I would encourage you to try other big named apps before settling with this one.

It takes too long for transactions to sync from our bank with the pay version. Also if we both sync in our joint account all transactions show up twice.
  • Good starting point

My husband and I have been using this since we first started our budgeting journey almost one year ago. It’s been a good starting point for us and fairly easy to use as we learned how to budget and not get overwhelmed. However, one thing that drives me crazy is that it doesn’t always sync our transactions in a timely manner (it can take upwards of a week sometimes) and that causes issues with staying within our budget. And because my husband and I are joint owners of our bank accounts, the app duplicates transactions which caused a lot more confusion. Thankfully we were able to figure out how to stop the transaction synchronization by turning off the toggle for the duplicated bank accounts. All in all, it’s a good starting point for those who are new to budgeting but I don’t think it good enough to continue to use long term. Monarch actually meets more of my expectations and provides way more in-depth budgeting support and higher quality.
  • Other apps are too cumbersome

This app is simple. That is what makes me come back. No writing rules for purchases and etc etc. you create your line item and sync the app with your debit card. Once it clears you can simply drag the purchase into the bucket and you’re done. It’s simple. It’s perfect. Please don’t over complicate a budget.

Deleted this app almost as quick as I downloaded it. It’s a poor replacement for Mint. Also, Dave Ramsey is an out-of-touch nutjob that gives horrible financial advice.
  • Longest load time of any app

From since beginning to use this app in 2019, it has remained the app with the longest load time opening it of any app on my phone that I've ever used. When logging expenses throughout a given day, this becomes a bit exhausting as you stand awkwardly waiting wherever you happen to be.

Doesn’t sync with American Express. So you will need to plan on inputting all of those charges in manually.
  • Small but deeply frustrating

Let me start by saying I really overall enjoy this app but their are 3 key factors that are making me consider switching budgeting apps. 1) The biggest because it effect all users is the fact that when you got to the transaction tabs it organized first by date the alphabetically. This frustrates me to no end and is a big oversight. I will often need to edit a transaction that I JUST imported and will have to scroll through a list from the day instead of it being on top. 2) When I got premium and had transaction tracking enabled it would take too long to track the transaction. This significantly introduced friction vs me just inputing the transaction. Cause I would have to double check it tracked everything properly at the end of the week without it having all transactions from the week even compiled yet. (This was awhile ago though maybe they fixed it but honestly I don’t care to give it another chance as it was to much hassle) 3) I would like to be able to customize the layout and delete categories I don’t use like “debt” and so on. With that said the layout is the strongest thing this app has going for it and is why I so far have used it over other apps
