The Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) was developed in 1974 to assess the depth of impaired consciousness and coma following trauma. There have been a few tweaks to the GCS over the past 40 years as well as some clarification in testing. Also includes pediatric GCS (for ages 2 and younger).
