Description

The New Lakota Dictionary (NLD) Mobile App is the best way to look up Lakota words, hear pronunciation, and view thousands of example sentences while on the go. It’s the ultimate electronic Lakota learning and reference tool. • Male and female voices for audio • Consistent phonemic spelling – Standard Lakota Orthography • Superior cross-referencing capabilities • Faster and more responsive than online versions • Works offline, without active data connection • Inflection charts show complete inflectional paradigm • Copy/Paste by word or line • Save favorites lists and navigate search history • Leave comments to improve future versions • Built-In keyboard for typing special characters • Built-In lemmatizer searches for conjugated verbs and word forms • Over 400 native speakers involved in its development and review • Accurate and reliable • Fun to use and explore • An excellent self-study tool The lemmatizer is one of the biggest advantages of the app when compared to the printed version of the NLD. Affixes are added to words all the time, so identifying stems with multiple affixes can be challenging in a print dictionary, but this dictionary app does that for you. If you type in e.g. waŋwíčhablake the app will show you the entry waŋyáŋkA.

I really love all the updates that have been added to the new version. Being able to hear the language to correct my own pronunciation is so helpful. I use this app almost daily as a reference and it’s been very useful in my studying.

I have the book but the app is really fast and helpful with word meanings and conjugations. I am pleased to use the dictionary which was made with Lakota people. It is a really good thing to read and share. The dictionary can be searched with english or lakota words. it can be read in lakota if you are a fluent speaker. The dictionary will supplement other lakota learning materials you may have. Its really exciting to be able to read and pronounce new words quickly. u can also hear audio of each words pronunciation.

This is a great app for those that want a resource for the Lakota Language. It has so many entries, for how the words are used. In the latest update, it has a great chart for all the different conjugations of the verbs. This is very helpful in learning the diffeeent conjugations.

Amazing updates… these make the app REALLY easy to use. So happy! Love the pop-up congregation (“inflection”) charts & that you can create specific lists in “favorites” for study purposes. All of these new features are really going to help me in my Lakota language learning journey. Thank you, LLC!

I’m not able to get a verbal sound from a lot of words. It keeps wanting me to copy or go to or search when I want to heard a pronunciation of a word
  • LLC is a corporation from Indiana

Ullrich is a hobbyist from the Czech Republic and is the compiler of this dictionary. He and Meya and the LLC and the TLC are banned from the Standing Rock nation. Despite Standing Rocks initial investment, they have never shared revenues with this corporation- no Lakota tribes do. There are no citations meaning no honoring of the people who have helped and which word and which community they are from. Their writing system was forced on the Lakota people in order to sell these products. Also, the text corpus database where this stems from- the Lakxota people not any tribes have access to it. This is a data grab, harvesting from people who already are experiencing settler colonial violence.
  • Fraud

The editor is non-native and not even from the US. His definitions are not translated correctly. So. It rely on this info. He is a fraud.

Just purchased through App Store. Nothing works. All I get when I click on the icon is a description of the supposed content. Not functional. I just lost $9.99.

Bought the app and it’s essentially dead on arrival. Really disappointed it’s still for sale when it’s not been migrated to current compatibility.

Absolutely love the revisions and new version of this. Wish pronunciation worked for me on ipad as well as it does on iPhone. As a newbie to this beautiful language, I look forward to learning with this tool in my tool belt.
