Smart Family provides useful tools to help monitor my kids’ usage in a easy to use format that is reasonably priced.

  • Location services need improvement

I used Life 360 for my daughter but switched to Verizon’s smart family to give me some phone restrictions at night as well. The trouble came when the app showed my daughter in the middle of the woods at 1030 pm. I called and texted her and she didn’t answer so of course her Dad and I got in the car to navigate to her, using the app. She wasn’t there. I called the friend she was supposed to be with, and she answered right away. They were right where she said they would be, at the house, watching Netflix. The app still showed her 2.5 miles away in the woods! Called Verizon and downgraded to the option without location, and will be repurchasing life 360. **update 9/22/18** The developer replied and said we needed the companion app. Well...we’ve had that the entire time. How else would you figure that the parental controls work? 🤔 Maybe your location services just don’t work? It’s ok to admit that you need to improve. Thanks for trying to make me feel like I’m an idiot. Next?
  • Does not do what it claims to do

Child still able to get on iMessages during restricted times and the trusted contacts list doesn’t work. Don’t use - waste of money.
  • Really wanted this to work

This is the second program we have tried to monitor our teens content and sadly this isn’t the solution I had hoped for. Installed last night and by this morning my kid had already unpaired the software. I never got notified (I just happened to log into the app to see it was unpaired). It needs to have stronger tamper proof software. The other area where the program falls short is that I have no clue what websites he has accessed, so you have to blindly trust that the content filter caught everything.
  • Easy to use

Very easy to use, if you use some common sense, which apparently not all have. I have many. Complaints about Verizon but this one isn’t one of them. Love that I can easily shut it down from my phone and get set hours to what is useful to my family.
  • App has potential, but has a long way to go

We have been TRYING to use this app for a couple months, in preparation for a child starting middle school. It has a lot of nice features...that keep turning off on their own!!!! (arrival/leave notifications), giving false errors (need to sync to child’s phone, location services not working properly [sometimes you gotta have a phone turned off]), logging you out (stay logged in checked), and fingerprint not working (when enabled). When you have an app whose sole purpose is to keep tabs on your child - and it only works SOMETIMES - then what good is it really? And for a monthly fee!!!????. C’mon, you can do better. I’ll be asking for a credit each month until you can make this work consistently.

  • 911

Seriously, because I dialed 911 the program was canceled and I have to reset the whole entire thing starting with getting the app again? There was a live wire on the ground, I had to call 911 or someone was going to get hurt.
