Description

A stunning guide to fungi of North America. Mushroom Id will help you quickly and easily identify species of the USA and Canada. Mushroom Id is great fun to use! Identification can be enjoyed by the whole family. Mushroom Id has been created by professional published ecologists, and uses images selected with the specific aim of aiding identification. Anatomical, ecological and taxonomic information is also included. Mushroom Id can be used to keep a log of your fungi sightings making it easy to build a record of all the species you've seen. SUNBIRD field guides are the only products on the market that use the KUSAM species identification methodology. This state of the art method is a modern taxonomic keying system designed specifically for use on mobile devices. The app does not need an internet connection, all content is downloaded when the app is purchased. We will be adding new species regularly. Don't forget to keep your app up to date. 164 species are covered. The app is intended for the general interest user with a love of the natural world. The app is not intended for use when foraging for wild foods and we strongly recommend you do not handle or eat wild mushrooms, many are extremely poisonous and easily misidentified.

This app is not worth downloading for free let alone paying for it. I’m going to request a refund.

First off I wanted to like the app and it does indeed have great pictures. I do feel that the descriptions are lacking. I have also not had any luck using the scientific name in the search function which is kind of a bummer. Thirdly, it lists psilocybes as poisonous which is a little dishonest I think. All in all I feel like I wasted $5, had to give it 3 stars because it still has some good features and a decent library it still needs work to be a 5star app

A good app for beginner through novice. It’s best value is as a steppingstone to more thorough but intimidating apps.
  • Great field guide

But they won’t commit on as to wether or not you can eat them. They do tell you which ones you CAN’T eat, so that’s a plus.
  • Lots of help

This app helped me identify and get rid of toxic fungi growing near my tomatoes. Useful for sating curiosity and developing some amateur ID skills. Would recommend.

It’s quite useful while out walking around, but I find several types aren’t in the database. I’m sure it will continue to improve over time. I use it all the time!

A very good reference for someone like me who knows nothing about fungi.
  • A little overpriced for the number of species

5 dollars seems like a bit much when many of the categories only have one species. Very limited use.
  • Great app (needs more)

The app is a great idea just need more species listed and their ranges. Also if you could group them but Order, Family or Genus that would be much more helpful in ID’ing
