Description

Modal Buddy for guitar is a fun and unique practice tool that teaches you modal theory in one day. It's also a jam tool that provides looping backing tracks, scale charts, and let's you explore the anatomy of modal scales. Now you (and your students) can conquer modes quickly and spend more time soloing! --------- “I’m a music teacher with 25+ years exp… Every musician should have a working knowledge of modes and this app is concise, linear, and very well done.” - Rich in Jax, Customer, USA “Modes are somewhat confusing at first and without the right guidance can be tricky. This app makes it easy. As a teacher myself I will be showing students this cool little practice app.” - DannyK6, Customer, USA “A revolutionary interactive modal practice tool.” - Paul Riario, Guitar World Magazine --------- Modal Buddy arms guitarists and instructors with an intuitive, step-by-step method for teaching and practicing modal theory, improving proficiency and bolstering the value of lessons. It empowers you with a fun and efficient vehicle for exploring the truly magical yet notoriously complicated world of musical modes. --------- KEY FEATURES: - Checklist-style theory section for lightweight, structured learning - Audio examples (with solos) - Backing tracks to practice all seven modes - Zoomable scale charts - Practice examples - Revolutionary jam tool - Beautiful, intuitive design --------- Q: WHO IS THIS APP FOR? 1) Music instructors with a BASIC understanding of modal theory who want to increase their confidence and effectiveness in teaching this fairly complex topic. 2) Music instructors with a COMPLETE understanding of modal theory who are looking for an easier, more consolidated approach to teaching and practicing the material with students. 3) Intermediate to advanced music students who are proficient in pentatonic and major scales and are interested in achieving more expressive guitar improvisation / melody creation. Q: MODAL THEORY LITERATURE IS AVAILABLE EVERYWHERE - WHY BUY THIS APP? The breadth of freely available information about modal theory is the main reason it’s so difficult to learn (and teach) - there is simply too much out there, and much of it is poorly written or incorrect; a recipe for confusion! Teaching modal theory effectively requires a distillation and simplification of core concepts, organized strategically so they're easy for students to learn - and a method for applying those skills during lessons. For less than the cost of an average theory book, we've consolidated and organized modal theory into it's finest form, and hand-crafted a completely custom experience, ideal for mastering the material. We know you and your students will love our approach! --------- Feel free to send any questions to [email protected].

  • Text overlaps making it impossible to read.

I do like the other product by this developer but this one is unusable on my iPad or iPhone. The title text overlaps the interval descriptions making it nearly impossible to read the content. I gave up one the app after a couple of minutes. Recommend saving your money.

A minor was my go to and know this inside n out up n down the neck. After playing this n getting by I want deeply to go to the next level. YouTube was a bust as you get a small bit without the backing knowledge I spent cash on it loaded the app went over it a few times then started to use it. No after some time melodic scales come from modes and that was it. After using n practicing and memorizing and going back over this now is something that seemed so big but now it was really small and I use it daily. My wife has noticed a difference ( I don't think she ever watched intently) but it is just more melodic and more NOT the normal sounds-

Don't bother. This app is the biggest waste of money. It Should have been free.
  • Awesome with one minor flaw

I already know how to play in the modes, however this app is a fantastic tool because it is an excellent reference source as well as a learning and practice platform. There is one minor flaw though - it's an iPhone app so if you run it on iPad it can bug out a little bit - pressing the 1x or 2x button will freeze the app. Other than that very minor flaw this is definitely worth the time money and effort.
  • Only G major???

After all this time the app still only plays the jam tracks in one key (G major) and its corresponding modes. So if you want to practice soloing in Ab Dorian for example, you are just out of luck. Really stupid/lazy. I would have gladly paid for a wider variety of jam styles midis if the dumb app could transpose to each key. Without that feature the app is basically useless after a few uses.
  • Decent, but overpriced

The backing tracks and the modal diagrams are helpful, don't get me wrong - but what you're really paying for is the time you'd spend finding them for free online. This is a $2 app, and even that is pushing it. Don't buy this app at full price. If I could go back and smack my past self before hitting "buy" I definitely would. Otherwise, it's a solid introduction to modal theory and I've found it helpful for identifying and fixing places where I need to improve.
  • Great learning tool!

Highly recommended. It's helping me out a lot. However I'd love to see more than one jam track per mode and more than just having the modes in G.
