  • Ads are extremely annoying

Great articles, but they play ads for children’s games after every single read. Not worth the hassle.
  • Ads appear and cannot be closed

Science News would be rated higher, but lately, ads for games will seem to randomly appear that interrupt my reading of a science article. While I might accept that occasionally, the worst part is there often is no way to close the ad to continue reading. The only option is to force close the app and start over, hoping to find the same article again, and hoping that the offending ad does not reappear. They need to fix that defect, or I’m gone.
  • Love the content! Some loading lag.

Nice eclectic mix of subjects. Love that! I find that there is lag in loading the links to the full stories.
  • I gave Science News 5 stars - then

I got a pop-up on the app to rate it. I gave them 5 stars. I went back to looking at the stories and immediatly got full page ads that wouldn't go away - even after I closed & reopened a couple of times. I guess it doesn't pay to give them a good review! If this continues I'll be deleting the app. Thanks fo allowing my comment.
  • Beware!

This app is designed for one thing above all else: ad revenue. The content is auto-generated scrapings from other news sites aggressively repackaged beneath a constant stream of ad impressions. YOU are the product here, not science news. Your attention is being sold to the cheapest ad buys. I just watched one ad that ended with an "App Update" notice that looked almost identical to an iOS dialog and I nearly clicked it. Stay safe: stay away from this.

Sometimes laughable content Studies of questionable value
  • No politics

Keeps the politics out of science.
  • Can’t find the articles due to all the ads

I used to love this app. But it has been developing more and more ads, making it almost impossible to read any article. The clincher, today, is a full page opening ad with a very tiny link to the app, that you have to find and correctly tap or else you are stuck reading an ad.
  • Actual Science

A source for reliable and accurate reports, in contrast with the dumbed down, vague and wrong or exaggerated reports elsewhere.
  • Too much fluff!

So how exactly did Star Wars trivia get to be science news? There is a lot more fluff but this tripe is probably the most dominant right now. Edited to reduce to one star and to complain that the fluff is worsening rather than improving. Now they’ve started having review articles about sci fi cartoons!
