Description

FingerWorks is a free, educational tool to learn the notes on a fretboard of a guitar. FingerWorks is best used with a guitar teacher or a coach but can, of course, be used alone. FingerWorks gives you a note to locate starting on the 6th string of your guitar. Based on your settings you will have to find the next note on the next string, which is shown on the screen. For beginners it is recommended to only use the software with the 6th string alone since this exercise can become mind-bending very quickly for a novice. From there, add one string at a time until you become fluent with all of the notes on the guitar neck! A left-handed mode is available so you can see the guitar neck the way you play! The idea of FingerWorks came from a real exercise practiced every day with a guitar teacher, but now you have access to your own virtual guitar teacher on your Mac!

  • Showing the fretboad from another player's point of view is STUPID

Who thought it would be a good idea to try and learn the notes on the guitar by looking at a fretboard from the point of view of SOMEONE ELSE playing? This is STUPID. The app itself is pretty cool, but orienting the fretboard this way is completely asinine, and makes this app worse than useless.

As other reviewers have noted, the headstock is facing the opposite way you normally would look at it. However, I use this app as a practice tool, not necessarily to understand where the notes are located. There are some great excercises on Youtube that show how to memorize the fret board. This app is great for practicing with a metronome. I honestly don’t even look at the fretboard so the incorrect orientation doesn’t bother me. I set the tempo and match the sound. The app plays the note so you will know if you hit the wrong one. I think not looking at the fretboard will stretch you more and you’ll learn how to memorize faster. This app is a great tool for me.

I've got this app to work once, and it was a great learning tool, but it has bugs. Now it doesn't run even after reboots and reinstalls. If update comes I will leave a five star review.
  • Why is the headstock on the right side for rt. hand players?

Can someone explain to me why this app has a guitar with the headstock and nut facing the wrong way? The point of this app is to help find notes on the fretboard so the headstock should be on the left to resemble what you see when you are looking down as you are playing. It's good that there is a left hand option too, but why screw up the whole orientation?

Don't be fooled by the screenshots, the app is also available in english ! We have been using it at our guitar school and so far it's been working great, we can see very fast results with the beginners.
