One can’t help feeling at least a little homesick when on a long distance hike...that can be exacerbated by not being exactly sure of where you are at geographically in relationship to the “off trail world”. I find that Guthook alleviates that to some extent...it acts as the proverbial “security blanket”. With little effort, I found it easy to use!

Great info... However, poor job on making it into a easy to read display. 3/5

I don't like the new "real" maps makes it harder to read, if I knew how to make it normal again it'd be higher

This is my go to app for AT section hike planing. Would be 5 stars but the latest version crashes when I try and plan a hike.

You can download the maps to your device and you don’t need cell signal.
  • Good app but could use further development

It's a good app that is really the only option in its space, and the social aspects of the app now making it irreplaceable, i.e., lots of user comments and insights about different spots on the AT. What the app desperately needs to significant investment to improve the user interface, make it faster, more stable, etc.
  • Best App Ever for AT

This app is the best thing I take on my AT hikes. I was pleasantly surprised at how accurately it showed my location and the distances to campgrounds, water sources, etc. Also a great tool for planning.
