+ FEATURED IN ASTRONOMY MAGAZINE + Get away from the city's bright glow and head out to dark skies, where the Milky Way shines with countless stars overhead. Dark Sky Finder helps you locate nearby dark skies to take a telescope, watch a meteor shower, or simply relax under the stars. See light pollution maps of the ENTIRE WORLD, along with dots that indicate good observing locations. Anyone can add a good observation site — for instance, a public park with no bright lights — and write a few words about it to help other people in the area looking for a dark location. ** KEY FEATURES ** • Light Pollution Map: Overlaid on top of the standard map, satellite, or hybrid. Covers the entire world. • Dark Sites: Escape to dark skies in over 1,000 locations worldwide. Includes user reviews, directions, and information on sky conditions, important notes, parking, fees, bathrooms, camping, weather, and much more. • Add a Dark Site: Make a contribution by adding a dark site for everyone to enjoy. • Clear Sky Charts: Finds the nearest Clear Sky Chart to pull in information on transparency, seeing, and other conditions relevant to telescope observers. • Bortle Scale: Tap on the map legend to toggle between the Bortle Scale and basic scale. Read more about the Bortle Scale for measuring light pollution in the About tab. ** SUPPORT & FEEDBACK ** Send an email to james@skidmoreapps.com for support or to give feedback on the app. Feedback is always appreciated!

  • Missing Address Geo Query

Great app. Needs the ability to either query grid coordinates or mailing addresses, or add the ability to drop pins via a coordinate inputted by the user.
  • Excellent

A necessary app for anyone trying to locate dark skies for astronomical viewing
  • Love this app!

    By Drove19
Please update the app! I do not want to lose it because y'all last updated in Aug 2015. Thanks
  • Search?

    By Formaset
Well, it works be great to have the ability to enter a city and hit SEARCH... Then, wherever that place I type falls into, then all I need to do is look at the map colors and see if the light pollution is good enough for my Astro time lapse photography. If not, I'll search for another city as close as possible from me. The point of this App is to hopefully find a place that you know nearby with acceptable darkness and don't have to travel 2000 miles for it. But no, I have to search on google earth, maps and then try to precisely locate on the dark sky App's map which is impossible.
  • Works well

This app quickly shows me the sky brightness at each location. Worth the money. It works well on my iPad mini and iPhone 6 base model. The brightness shown in the app matches my experience of a site, so I trust its predictions for a site that I have not visited
  • A needed application for amateur astronomer!

    By Porsche Mom
The layout makes sense and the app runs smooth! The only thing I would like is if the map was more realistic, like Google earth. (The Mercator projection makes me laugh) Although I don't know how hard this would be to code, or if it's even possible. (It is of course not a necessity.)
  • Very good app!

It does what I need it to do. Layout is a bit plain but it does the job! But I think there should be another update for new dark sites.🌌
  • Could be good, but no longer supported?

    By Guster11
The map itself is accurate and it has useful sites, but the bugs make it not worthwhile. If you click on anymore than one dark sky site for more info the app crashes, every time. Plus the app support page leads to a domain for sale and this app hasn't been touched since 2014, sure looks like these bugs aren't getting fixed. Don't get this unless it's updated.
  • Helpful but buggy

    By ZigZagLens
Some decent information here but it's very dated (some of it several years old.) Making it worse, the app hasn't been updated in a year and crashes frequently.
  • Great so far!

Just what I needed after purchasing a telescope. Great so far. No crashes yet. On iPhone 6 with most updated iOS.
