With a user-friendly interface and simple interactive piano keyboard, fretboard, and drum pad, and even optional handwriting recognition, Notion makes it easy to get started composing your music. And, with Notion's abundance of advanced functions you can take your most basic ideas to an entirely new level right on your iOS device or share with Notion 6 for Mac or Windows. I previously left three stars due to the fact that it wasn’t working on my iPad or iPhone when I got a new phone. I was at fault and now it’s working beautifully! As a guitar teacher this app is indispensable for creating tabs, duo or trio arrangements, and full band scores. I can send pdf files and even separate the parts. I will recommend my students download this app too!

I like the app. I’m just frustrated because it is not specified that the handwriting feature is not included with the app purchase. It an extra 8 bucks which is not a deal breaker, but it would have been nice to know...
  • Nice app but...

I normally don’t write reviews, but I spent $15 on this app just for it not to be able to write more than 2 notes on a staff at one time. I’m trying to write a chord on the piano part. Very frustrating.
  • Great app but crashes

This app is great/would be if it didn't crash, everytime I try to create a new file it automatically crashes.
  • Disappointed

I spend way too much creative energy and time doing simple formatting. Not worth it.

I have Yamaha MD-BT01 adapter and MIDI-out function is still missing, why? Please, add MIDI-out function with playback support of all MIDI channels.

I love using this app, though I'm still learning. The handwriting is reasonably accurate, though I wish I could adjust the recognition delay or toggle recognition after I'm done adding marks. There are some great dynamics controls, and the default sounds are sufficient for most previews, especially when just using the Grand Piano sound. I'm not thrilled with the strings, but again, they're fine for building out parts. The thing that I really, really want Presonus to do is create current video tutorials with a professional instructor. The current ones on their site are painful to watch. The narrator sounds like he was roped into doing them after lots of protesting and no coffee. Other features that would be nice include: central score setup that includes key and timing; an option to tie notes across bars when the line return (e.g., from bar 5 to 6 when they're on different lines); a chord tool for laying down progressions rapidly. Overall, this is an outstanding app. I docked one star because of the help files and strings sounds, but I'd only take 1/2 star if possible.

Like another viewer said: the other programs are rather expensive! I was unhappy with Finale and didn’t want Sibelius (Avid ProTools was very tough). I decided to spend the $15 on Notion for iOS and am very pleased! One of the ONLY apps out there, and works on both Mac and Windows! I considered Logic for my old Mac but have changed my mind ... I’m no “serious” composer - yet Notion’s intuitive interface means music creation is not a big scary endeavor :)) The playback sounds are great, mostly, though a few sound MIDI-ish. Includes a nice plethora of instruments with the option to buy some of the playback sounds (otherwise it’s piano I think). Notion includes a decent number of bells and whistles without an overwhelming setup; you can quickly access rhythms, dynamics, tempo, time signature, and other fundamentals efficiently! While I’m creating arrangements, my piano students instantly see HOW music is notated :) Love composing music? Always on the go? Meet your new best friend, Notion!
