Description

Find Independent Bookstores around the country, using the Indie Bookstore Finder. More than 400 stores at launch, with more to come. Saturday April 30th is Independent Bookstore Day, and you can use this app to find everyone near you celebrating it. Many of the stores are having special events, author appearances and books you can only find from your independent book store. Independent bookstores make a difference in your community, more than buying from big box stores or that major online book retailer that shall not be named. Your local shop owners support local causes, spend their money in the same community you do, or in the community you're visiting. Indie Bookstore Finder is a collaboration between GoLocalApps and City Book Review. We started our business doing book reviews and created an app back in 2009 to promote our book reviews for children. Since that app, we spun off the app development business into GoLocalApps and now are back working together again.

Fix the app soon. Crashes after being open for 30 seconds

To the developers: Needs to search the descriptions since the name of a business does always contain the right keyword. This app has tons of potential, don't give up on it, make it great.
  • Great Idea - But

The concept of local people recommending local owner owned businesses that they like is great. The app really fails to provide anything useful and figuring out how to work it or add to it is painful. Skip this version.

Love the idea, love and have recommended the 3/50 project, but the app just plain doesn't work right. I've opened the app 3 times, waited for it to load each time, and then watched it crash - only once giving me a too-quick look at a list first.
  • Great Concept, Not good App

The idea and premise behind the 3/50 project is good. Surprised that it is called look local, not 3/50 project like its creator. The part that is surprising is how slow the app runs. This is not because of the phone or network, it is an app issue. If you can straighten out the slowness issues this might be a good app. Taking more than five minutes to search for a local company is not cool.

This is exactly the kind of thing this country needs more of. A great way to help people support their local economy and community. Look forward to seeing the listings grow!
  • Nice try, but stick to public speaking...

I'm sorry - I'm a HUGE fan of the 3/50 project and Cinda Baxter. But, I have ti say that I'm getting tired of sub-standard apps brought to market by people/companies/personalities that should stick to what they are good at… I'll come hear Cinda speak anytime, and I'll keep my 3/50 sticker in the window, but - well, this app leaves a lot to be desired. Very few businesses in our area, poor navigation, etc… I'm glad the app is free, but I seriously can't understand how/why any business would pay to advertise in it??? Even with the huge push on Facebook a month ago - there are only 13 reviews or downloads? I know Cinda doesn't like anybody to say anything bad about anything ever, but… Well, these are just my two cents...

This app. is AWESOME! Very nice, easy to navigate layout! Can't wait to put it to great use next time I'm out and about! Excited to easily be able to find the "little guys" wherever I might be! Thank you for creating this app, I'll be sharing it with all my friends!

I LOVE the app, and your entire program (I'm a customer and fan of buying local, not a brick & mortar myself). Looking forward to more listings as they come (and I'm sure they will, many of my favorite local spots have 3/50 signs prominently displayed). I will definitely use this both at home, and when traveling to a new city..... I'd much rather seek out the local flavor for shopping or eating options. Thanks for this!
  • a national initiative promoting local ?

I run a local app promoting local businesses and events and object to a national initiative coming to our market to tell us to promote local! How about throwing your support to the local apps! They are all over the U.S. - locals in communities running little tech social media sites. How about educating the local institutions who give locavore lip service to use local media instead of YELP , or .....Look Local!
