Friendly Plus Social Browser

Edit 4/11/24-April9 update is still garbage. Updated March 30, 2024. Still doesn’t work as promised. Still has ads, suggested posts, clutter after clutter just like the regular Facebook feed. Garbage. Feb 28, 2024 I’d bought the Plus app some years ago. Recent updates kicked the Plus features off the app I had installed for years. I found a Plus version available for $.99, so I figured the developer wants a new round of income from those who already bought it. Normally I’d just delete the app at that point, but I went ahead and re-bought Plus. I’m STILL getting all the same junk in my feed that I got without having paid the $.99. I stopped counting after 44 posts of things in my feed that I had no direct connection to!!

This app still makes my phone hot enough to burn my hand. Last update it seemed like it was fixed but sometimes it still gets hot, sometimes it doesn’t. I sent a report to the developer through the app, I also reported this app to Apple, and nothing.

Update 4/12/24: After FOUR years of holding out, this app is garbage. Haven’t been able to download posts or video from any platform for a VERY long time. Ads have begun playing again in YouTube. Looking back at my previous ratings, saving photos/video/stories has been a looooong time problem for them to keep up with. It’s 2024, if y’all can’t figure it out by now, you’re never going to. Letting this app go. Update 8/15/20 - two stars The app’s dark mode issues have (mostly) been sorted out; however you still can’t read the activity feed or account name text very well on Instagram. Last few updates have again improved and then immediately broken/removed the ability to download a video or story from Instagram. Once again, that’s the whole reason why I bought the paid version of the app. Twitter runs smooth and the ads are gone with the ad blocker on. But the account photo is still blurry in the account switcher even after two years of adding Twitter to Friendly. No other app I’ve used regularly has gone from great to useless in such a yo-yo pattern between one update and the very next as much as Friendly. Update 12/18/19 - three stars Everything was going fine but now the Facebook side of the app is stuck in Desktop view on iPad. Which is also negating the Night Mode feature of the app. Please fix it. Everything else works just fine except that. Update: 8/10/19 - one star Now I can't even long press on a photo to save it to my camera roll. This app has become pointless for me. Update: 7/25/19 - two stars Instagram feed loads next set of posts much faster now. And now you can see the full text of a post when you hit "more". Super great. App remains at 2 stars for me because the button to save/share photos from Instagram was fixed but is now broken again. Have to long press on a photo to save it and share it through opening your other apps such as Messages. Oddly, the button still works to save a video, which was a hugely unaddressed problem for a long time 🤔. Saving both photos and videos hassle-free was the main reason why I got this app. If one works, the other doesn't or they both don't work at all is the reoccurring theme with this feature. Twitter side is relatively new so I'm a bit more forgiving of the interface being choppy. Two big issues though: 1.) Twitter side still LITTERED with ads. Now one shows up nearly every four tweets, even with ad-blocker turned on. And there's ALWAYS one right at the top of the feed. 2.) the profile photo is still pixilated and blurry even though the last update claimed to have fixed that. Lastly, color chosen for my accounts in my iPad is still not fixed. Erased and reinstalled the app multiple times. It just keeps changing my colors to whatever the app feels like even while dead in the middle of using it. 7/6/18 Still can't save a video from FB or Instagram. Tried to save a video from Instagram and it kept saving a PHOTO from a few posts up on my stream. When I added my Twitter, the account photo is blurry in the account switcher. Twitter ads every few tweets in the stream even though ad blocker is on. Color chosen for my accounts on my iPad won't stay the same color. Lot of really basic user problems. Needs fixing.

Wanted this app just to see posts from my family im not huge on facebook so thought id give this a try well it went okay but im not actually getting notified from facebook or messenger i have notifications enabled to idk what else i have to do just to get notified about stuff idk

Nothing but advertising and suggested garbage now.

Use to be great. Could see feed chronologically, could stop ads and other things. Now Facebook appears to have figured out how to override this. I can't believe anyone uses facebook. But overall the app has become less and less useful so will probably soon delete and may do the same with my social accounts

Used the paid version for about 10 years, put up with a lot of malfunction. Sent bug reports occasionally, never heard a peep back. Realized lately that not only have the advantages over the official FB app fallen away, but now it’s harder to just see and sort through my feed than with the official app. I’m not sure why the developer is still pushing updates, nothing has been meaningfully fixed for a very long time. Maybe FB’s API became too much of a moving target, but I can’t respect continuing to sell this thing.

iPad mini and it still doesn’t work right on it. No way to get to feed, messages, or any of the things using icons that work on an iPhone.
