Odd name, great app." - National Geographic "One of the most useful apps for any nature photographer" - Outdoor Photographer Magazine "It worked perfectly. The program was dead on…" - National Geographic "One of the most powerful photography applications that I've seen, one that you'll be using for years and years." - AdoramaTV The Photographer's Ephemeris (TPE) helps plan outdoor photography shoots in natural light, particularly landscape and urban scenes. It's a map-centric Sun, Moon and Milky Way calculator: see how the light will fall on the land, day or night, for any location on earth. Whether you need at-a-glance information on today's sun, moon and Milky Way data for your current location, or need to plan a precise alignment of the full moon for a future shoot, TPE has the tools you need. The combination of augmented reality, line-of-sight analysis and visual search supports the most sophisticated photo planning needs. Night mode features a 3D representation of the Milky Way, pole stars and major constellations directly over the map, so you can easily visualize exactly how to align your shot. Research and save your own list of favorite photographic locations, using 7 different map types (including 2 offline maps) and save them in your locations list. Favorite locations are always displayed right on the map. Advanced features including visual sun and moon search, automatic time zone and elevation detection, correction for atmospheric refraction and height above the horizon, ensuring that you have the best possible information for planning your shoot. You can even determine when the sun or moon will rise from behind nearby hills and mountains. Any time I have TPE open for planning and try to get the info to TPE 3D or transit, it always hangs or crashes.

With this app I have been able to plan for shots for a planned trip or for a date and time that I can get a shot based to the sun or moon position relative to a land mark. I’ve used it for city shots and nature shots. It’s a great tool.

I have had this app for a year and it has been a GREAT HELP. I take twilight photography and I can Dial in the sunset in the area I want to photography in. Find where the sunset will set and on the date that I will be in the area , a great help. I would recommend this to EVERYBODY that want to know where the sun and moon will rise and set. I have recommend this to all my friends. The new changes (April 2015) have been greatly received easier to to use. I ALWAYS use it to plan photographic adventures. Letting me know where the sun and moon will be at the place I am traveling. Best app for traveling. July 5, 2016 I have used and trusted the app since it beginning. I am a photographer that like to photograph sunrises and sunsets. I use this app to check sunrises and sunsets in the area's that I travel. The ability to keep locations I like to go is a very big plus. It is nice that I can see the times of sunrise or sunset and the dates of area's that I am thinking to photograph. I recommend this app highly. Nov 2 2016 LOVE and trust this app, I have use this app since it came out. I am a photographer and use it to take photo's of the sunrise and sunsets. It lets me plan my projects, locations and times so I can get the most out of the time in the area. Have shared this app with friends that NOW trust it .
  • TPE- essential tool for the informed photographer

Having TPE in the toolbox is really important to me so I make the most of my photography time. Surely happenstance photography ‘happens’ and I like to have my camera with me on a walk about with the dogs or just being out, intentional photography is deliberate and planned. You are still going to get surprises for content but hope to capture photos and videos of landscape and cityscape with the best opportunity for them to make a memorable impression. I am very please with Skyfire and when I find a quiet morning in the winter with little wind and a good chance of color I am headed to the lake to see if some long exposure photography can bring out some amazing photos with mirror like reflections of the landscape and sky. So many opportunities to use it for both day and night photography, it really is a tool for the informed photographer.

I find TPE not only very useful but also essential in some cases for successful landscape photography. Knowing ahead of time where and at what time sunrise and moonrise will occur and even being able to compensate for the effect of obstructions such as nearby hills or more distant mountains has allowed me to position myself at just the right spot at the right time. I highly recommend this tool for landscape photography.

Easy to use app for finding exact sunrise and sunset times, as well as other astronomical information. Well integrated with Google or Apple Maps. I’ve used it in Europe and North America.

Really great overall execution and features. With an nearly-unusable UI. There are lots of really weird choices that don’t make sense, but the main problem is: You can’t zoom out enough to pan around and find a location. Search doesn’t work well. This means if aren’t standing AT your location, or at least close, you may not be able to use the app. It’ll tell you it’s at “flight ceiling.” Come on, it’s a map. In general it’s a useful bit immensely frustrating app that will take 4x the amount of time it should.
