  • 2024 - This is terrible

How can the new version have ADDITIONAL analytics tracking AND additional load speed? On my iPad Pro it took 8 seconds to load an article. Terrible. ===Reached out to Dow Jones PR. This app update will ultimately cost WSJ millions if people flee. We pay too much to have this type of travesty occur. And if you want to contact them? You get a chatbot. The world is ending. This is proof.
  • Have you viewed the app privacy details?!

Saw with the v14.16.0 update that one of the two items listed under What’s New is “Increased analytics tracking”. This caused me to take a look at the app’s privacy details and, man WSJ is using the app to track the heck out of users…user & device IDs used to track and link to user, and even providing to third parties. Deleting.

I’ve been a WSJ customer for years and have had no issues but for the last few months I can no longer even read anything due to the app. For the longest time it would log me out infrequently which was annoying but I lived with it assuming it would be fixed. Well as of today I’ve cancelled my subscription because after almost 30 minutes of trying, including uninstalling and reinstalling the app, I can no longer even log in. For the cost of the subscription this is just asinine.

  • No speed control. No queue.

As an avid user who frequently listens to content while driving, I’ve noticed that the iPhone app lacks essential features such as speed controls for audio playback and the ability to create a queue. These features are available on the iPad app but notably absent on the iPhone app, which I primarily use. In today’s digital landscape, speed controls and queue functionality are standard features in major news apps and podcasts. The absence of these features in the WSJ iPhone app is surprising and limits the usability of the app, especially for users like myself who rely on it for on-the-go listening. I strongly believe that implementing speed controls and queue functionality on the iPhone app would greatly improve accessibility and enhance the overall user experience for subscribers like myself. Thank you for considering my feedback. I look forward to seeing these enhancements in future updates to the app.

For the past several hours, the WSJ App freezes upon opening. I have deleted it, and re-installed the App, resulting in the same frozen condition.
  • Love the writing, but the app needs improvement

One major issue: when I tap on articles that open as a separate web page, the app freezes for a few minutes, making it unusable. Also, please please please update the article narration voice to be an AI voice that has more emotion and sounds human. The current one sounds like a robot. I love listening to articles, but with recent improvements in AI, WSJ needs to get an AI voice that sounds like a normal human, like someone reading an audiobook.
  • App freezes for 30+ seconds

Last week or two, tapping on a story, app is unresponsive for over half a minute. Apparently wsj has changed the app so that it jumps to wsj.com web content and it takes forever to load. Seems like a huge step backwards. I guess wsj developes the web content for freebie content they publish for public click bait. As a paid subscriber, I feel increasingly cheated.
  • Too slow and battery drains fast.

This App has been slow for more than a year. The fact that a subscription is crazy expensive (~$$430/year!) makes it even more frustrating. I finally bothered to try to figure out if my iPad is the problem. It is a pain and I gave up. I don’t have problems like this with other Apps. Facebooks is the best example of one that I use (too) frequently. So annoying.
