Now on Sale!!! The most popular printed field guide to North American birds is now available in its entirety on the iPhone and iPad! **If you would like to experience the app check out the newly released Sibley eGuide to the Birds of North America LITE which is FREE and includes 30 species.** We have taken the simplicity and ease-of-use that you have enjoyed on your iPhone/iPod Touch and expanded and redesigned the layout (not simply “stretching” it) to take full advantage of the larger screen area of the iPad while still being the same app that runs on the iPhone/iPod Touch. The Sibley Guide to Birds has become the most popular and fastest selling printed guide to birds as well as the most comprehensive and authoritative guide to North American Birds: Over 6600 images. Every species is shown perched and in flight from above and below. Shows every major seasonal, age, and male/female variation. Detailed coverage of subspecies and regional variations. Detailed maps showing not just winter and summer range but also migration and rare occurrence. Detailed descriptions of songs and calls, comparing similar species measurements of length, wingspan, and weight for every species. Now all of that information is available in an easy-to-navigate portable format on the iPhone/iPad. In addition, this version of the app also includes: ● Swipe to move to the next or previous species. ● One-tap enlargement of images and rotating the device expands images further. ● Over 2300 carefully-selected and edited sound recordings. Nearly all species are represented with multiple examples showing the range of vocalizations. ● The ability to compare any two images, maps, or sounds, side by side on the screen. ● The ability to filter by state/province, so that you see only the species likely to occur in your location, and to further reduce the possibilities to the most common birds in that area. ● The ability to search by distinguishing features such as size, prominent colors, habits, and group. ● A basic personal species list* that stores your sightings saved to the device with the ability to export the list using email or iTunes file sharing. *Uninstalling/reinstalling the program will result in the loss of your list, it is recommended that you keep your own backup (master list) separate from the application. We invite all users to share their comments and ideas on our forum at NB. This Application WILL ONLY work on an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch running iOS V6.1 or higher NOT A NORMAL IPOD CLASSIC/NANO and the download is about 400MB.

  • Unable to type search with iPhone X

    By jh_de
The location where you type search terms is hidden on the iPhone X
  • Great Mobile Field Guide!!

    By JaredKidder
I have used various apps and mobile field guides for both North America as well as several other regions around the world. Sibley’s is among the best that I have used. It is user friendly, comprehensive and has a great array of vocalizations. Update Needed for iPhoneX. Top of search bar is cut off.
  • Can’t see search field when searching!

    By Nvh9
Stupid update broke search! The top banner mostly covers the search box so you can’t see what you’re typing! Also, if the list of species returned from a search extends down into keyboard area, there’s no way to click on a choice down there. Can’t close keyboard. May be able to pull list up to see bottom but it springs back when you let go. So you can’t click on anything near bottom of list. STUPID. Didn’t you folks try this out before you released update?
  • Needs iPhone X screen layout update

    By CrystalVanD
I would give this five stars, but the developer has not updated the app to accommodate the iPhone X screen, which obliterates the search function.
  • Recent update issues

On iPhone X the query field is obstructed by top title bar in app please fix this ASAP
  • Still missing features.

    By CrispyStatic
You’d think after 2 years this app would get some much needed attention, but all they did is add some “features” for importing lists? Who’s using Sibley for lists these days? I just want more species added and the ability to search by 4 letter code. Would also be nice to rework the compare interface so that both species names are shown.
  • Was the best, but no updates in ages

    By lonmc
Sibley hasn’t updated this in years, so it is dated, clunky, and doesn’t reflect his current books or the current taxonomic classifications. I still use it, but I now think of Sibley as the George Martin of birding.
  • Good book, not a 21st century app

    By RioNapo
A good translation of the book to a mobile format, allowing smaller and portable lookups with the added benefit of songs. Lacks many features of a modern app such as sharing logs among devices and geolocating. Lack of updates makes me think the publisher cashed in on the popularity of his book but didn't choose to compete in the app market. See iBird Ultimate for a birding app that's a real app.
  • Deleted my list and the app!!!!!!!!!

    By Big Ears Too
Don't trust your life list to this app! Not only did the latest update remove the app from my phone, it deleted my life list. A word of caution to anyone who thinks they can rely on this app! So much for "the cloud". They say that you might lose your list in the new update message however it is too late! Expected more from an app that was $20!! I'd give it 0 stars if I could.
  • Birder and App Developer

I love the paper edition Sibley guide so I decided to try this app. Overall it's fine, it has the same info as the book. HOWEVER, it is in desperate need of an update to play nice with the latest version of iOS. For example, the keyboard is huge and many transitions don't feel quite right. And where it fails altogether, if you search for a bird and the results don't fit on the screen you can't scroll them up above the keyboard 😥😥😥😥 This last issue is the worse, they almost shouldn't sell it until they fix it. PLEASE put some resources into this and update it! 👍
