Description

Enjoy the nostalgia of this classic game re-created in the original style of the TI-99/4a computer game from the 1980's!

Re-live the era with blocky but colourful graphics and simple but captivating sound effects.

Four cunning Hoonos are in hot pursuit of your Munch Man. Can he make it to an energiser in time to change the attack, or will the Hoonos devour him? Munch Man challenges you to: - Score points by connecting passages with a chain - Score points by capturing Hoonos while your Munch Man is energised - Avoid being eaten by the Hoonos Movement on the screen can be controlled by on-screen buttons, swiping in the direction you wish to go anywhere on screen or using a MFI Bluetooth controller. To play the game, tap the screen or press a direction when “ARE YOU READY?” appears. You start the game with three Munch Men; one in the maze and two at the top of the display. Four Hoonos are ready to escape from the square boxes seconds after the game begins. These Hoonos are tricky, so don’t let them catch your Munch Man or he’ll be eaten! After your Munch Man leaves the protection of the maze’s centre, he cannot return to this area. In addition, your Munch Man cannot enter an opening into a Hoonos cell. You may pause the game during play by pressing the on-screen pause button or the pause button on your Bluetooth controller. When the pause screen is displayed, you may select the Hoono logic: -Munch Man. This means the Hoonos will behave exactly as the original TI-99/4a game. -Pacman. This means the Hoonos will mimic the behaviour of the "Pacman" ghosts as in the well known arcade game. This adds an interesting spin on the old classic! Each Hoono has a different intelligence level. The red Hoono has the most intelligence, the yellow has the least and so has the ability to disappear occasionally. Once a level is filled with chain is is completed. There are a total of 60 levels to master, each with varying difficulty, Hoono design and colours.

  • Great to see it; impossible control timing

Played this often growing up and am so happy to see it again in what appears to be a pure recreation. However without the no-lag input of keys, the control scheme here whether utilizing on screen touch arrows or swipes make this an exercise in frustration, making the precisely timed inputs required nearly impossible to achieve.
  • It’s time for a bug fix.

I lived on this game as a kid, and as thrilled as I am that you have brought it back, I must point out... The finger swipe control works pretty well on my new iPhone 11 though it’s far from ideal, and that’s only when in regular mode. As others have stated, once the Munchman eats a power pellet and goes into speed mode there are several turns that are entirely too difficult and are nearly impossible to hit, thus distracting from the classic fluidity the original game had on the Texas Instrument. The swipe controller is one thousand times better than the other option of the directional controller you have offered, but the swipe controller definitely still needs some work, because it really could be fun if it worked better, but as is, it’s a bit disappointing.
  • Amazing recreation, but controls tough

I played this game for countless hours when I was a kid, and was so pleased to see this online. It’s everything I remember, but you can’t get past level 1 with these controls. Initially I though the only means of control was the little direction icons on the screen which made the game unplayable. The developer pointed out to me there were swipe controls which I didn’t know about, so I amended my review. Swipe controls make the game much easier, but it’s still very tough to execute specific turns, making the game very hard to play. Particularly when munch man is in speed mode after his power pellet. Not sure if the solution. Maybe have an option to slow gameplay or fine tune the swiping. When I was a kid using a keyboard, I was able to beat level 99 after a few days of play. It would be nice to have that level of control again. I love simple games like this to kill time in waiting rooms, but until the controls get improved a bit more, it’s not really playable.
  • Please improve the controls!

I used to play this all the time back in the 89s, so I was delighted to see this available (and with a little luck, “Tunnels of Doom” won’t be far behind). Unfortunately, the controls are so lousy as to be unusable. The screen buttons are small and extremely unresponsive; not good for a game focusing on speed and making quick turns. The port is perfect, but please fix the controls!
  • AWESOME!!

Thank you SO MUCH for giving us Munch Man!! I loved this game as a kid, and missed it terribly! What was cool about the Texas Instruments computers, is that it was set up to code, play a few games, and spread sheets and word, this was BEFORE cell phones and the internet, so imagine life when it was simpler and home gaming was new.

A great port of the TI99/4A Game called Munch Man. Instead of eating pills like in PacMan you leave a chain. When you fill the maze with chain you advance to the next level.
