  • Worth a play, but not as fulfilling

Enjoyed playing, but the puzzles don’t get difficult enough. And the stories are charming but there is SO MUCH DIALOGUE and the solutions of each case are pretty obvious from the beginning, so it’s a looot of clicking thru talking to find out what you already know. There is also an error on puzzle 101; the solution is the opposite of what is asked for. I thought I was just not getting it but found agreement from everyone online.
  • Not worth the money

Some people have complained about too much dialogue, but the mundane mysteries are a worse problem. The “crimes” lack excitement, intensity or villains. Each mystery is neatly solved with everyone happy including the miscreant. Motives for any wrongdoing are not particularly interesting (loneliness, for example). Puzzles are OK, ranging from simplistic to interesting to impossible to solve without hints. The characters are cute though. Probably best for preteens.

Katrielle and Ernest should have kissed. This is an injustice that I cannot tolerate.
  • Tedious UI and Pacing

The user interface is slow and tedious, requiring tons of tapping and switching menus or screens. Much of the dialog is fluff, doled out in single sentences, each requiring two taps to get through, unless you wait for them to be slowly typed out and tap at the end. The first two mysteries are solved merely by tapping through the tedious interface. Most of the puzzles in that time are random rewards for tapping around the screen, with very few puzzles relating to the case in any way. After several hours of play, I just couldn’t be bothered to continue tapping my way through in hopes of finding something fun.
  • So much dialogue. I just wanna solve puzzles!

When I first started playing, I read every text bubble, but after awhile I got bored and rapid fire tapped through because there are literally no puzzles to be solved for majority of the stories! Even then, I’m left tapping the screen 10 or 20 times to skip all the filler dialogue!
  • No iPhone X screen support

The content is good, but please support the notched displays in iPhone X and iPad Pro.
  • No where close to the original stuff

This game is not even a shadow of the original Professor Layton series. I am midway through the game and am tired of reading through all the unnecessary feel good dialogues between the characters. The originals had a minimal number of dialogues that were succinct and to the point. The mysteries themselves are also very childish, and the puzzles are designed to appeal to elementary school children. Please bring the professor and his assistant back.
  • Loved Professor but this isn’t awful

I played all of the DS games and absolutely loved them. While this doesn’t match up to those standards I still love the music and art style as well as the storyline that persists throughout the numerous episodes. I honestly hope that some people give it a chance despite other comments and the cost. I’m a fan of the game and for me the hours and hours I put into it solving every single puzzle definitely made it worthwhile to me. I kinda actually liked the episode type style because it was easier to finish one and put down instead of playing the game for 8 hours straight lol. (I do hope they go back to professor and luke though and explain how everything ties together with professors family tree...)
  • Fun but flawed

Puzzles are mostly fun when you get to them though a couple are kind of strange (“What colour do you see every day?” and “which of these two roads will not be busy if everyone takes this road?”). In general, the value isn’t really here for the money you pay, not least because you have to pay extra for the bonus materials. First, there is way too much time between puzzles and way too much dialogue. The description says it features a “modern” protagonist but she spends the first case ignoring it completely to get some food and go shopping. All in all, it feels like a Nickelodeon version of Layton and a pale comparison to The Curious Village
  • More than worth it!!

If you enjoy puzzles you’re in for a treat. My favorite Professor Layton game so far!
