Description

ChirpOMatic USA helps you identify North American birds quickly and easily, from the Blackpoll Warbler’s high pitched song to the loud gobble of the Wild Turkey. HOW DOES IT WORK? 1. Record the bird song or call using your iPhone or iPad. 2. ChirpOMatic analyzes the audio to identify the bird species based on its unique vocalizations. 3. The app gives the name of the bird, or birds. 4. In the case of poorer recordings, the app provides a short list of the most probable birds, ranked according to the likelihood of a correct identification. 5. Access additional information about the identified bird species, including brief descriptions of their song, and details of special features to listen out for. 6. Your recordings are stored on your phone along with the date and location − a great way to listen and remember the moment. Recordings can be shared using AirDrop, WhatsApp, messages or email. WHO’S IT FOR? Birdwatchers, enthusiasts and researchers. WHY CHOOSE CHIRPOMATIC? > Easy to use No technical or birding skills required. > Ethical and responsible The app’s innovative Bird-safe mode plus an automatic Night-time mode prevent sound and light from disturbing nesting birds. This means that it can safely be used in Wildlife Refuges, nature reserves, and other Wilderness areas. > Accuracy The app is constantly updated and improved. Created by Spiny Software, a small team of skilled, dedicated professionals with an eye for detail and accuracy, committed to delivering the highest quality software. > Privacy The app doesn’t collect your recordings or personal data to ensure privacy. > Customer service Excellent customer support ensures a reply within 24 hours. > Forgot your phone? Use your Apple Watch to record sounds for identification later on your phone. > Contribute to research Email us your best recordings and we’ll share them with birdwatchers, expert ornithologists, and enthusiasts worldwide, via the Xeno-canto website. As a result, your recordings will contribute to the understanding and appreciation of bird diversity and behavior. Happy bird listening!

  • It sort of works

I bought it for using on the Apple Watch. The watch app doesn’t work at all, just a black screen. I’ve tried reinstalling and restarting my watch but there’s still nothing. The phone version seems good but I will stick to using the apps provided for free by their competitors.

I’m a bit of an amateur bird nerd and love the Chirp O Matic app. There are other apps that work I’m similar ways, and I do use them. But one key feature of Chirp O Matic that I LOVE is, there is an Apple Watch version! No others bird ID app that I have found works with my watch. I don’t always take my phone on walks, so it’s nice to be able to quickly ID a bird song from my wrist. (Although it seems to have a bug at the moment.) The only thing I might say needs improvement would be to make the recording times longer. Definitely a must have a birder of any level of experience! Thanks!

Love being able to identify different birds by their song. Especially when they are hiding among the trees.
  • Not usable on a watch

You can only record the songs on the watch, you can’t ID or analyze at all on the watch app. ): You must also use the phone to even look at watch recordings. It’s a phone app. It’s not the same on the watch.
  • App crashes when I hit the button to “identify”

I paid for the app, recorded a birdsong in the app, pressed the identify button, and CRASH! iPad home screen pops up every time.
  • Inaccurate

I’m sitting just about face to face with a bird and recording the sound. The “results” aren’t even close!
  • Very limited functionality

I have not found this app to work, really ever. I limit background noise as much as possible, hold as still as possible, and get as close as possible and end up with incorrect identifications 90-95% of time. Just a heads up.
  • Not even a single correct hit so far

No, it’s not an owl. I’m not sure why it thinks everything is an owl other than that it’s not effective at its sole purpose. I regret this purchase and want my money back.
