After trying other apps for the last 20 years, this app is so incredibly thought out to the last detail that I am literally in love with it - not just the incredible important stuff like search, markdown support, no-hassle accurate export, etc - but even down to the adorable comforting typography and icons ♥

  • Limited Functionality and Lackluster Support – A 2-Star Review for Bear Note-Taking App

As a user who relies heavily on digital tools for organization and productivity, I was initially drawn to Bear for its sleek interface and the promise of a streamlined note-taking experience. However, after extensive use, I've found the app's editor tool to be disappointingly limited, which has significantly impacted my workflow and overall satisfaction with the product. One of the most glaring issues with Bear's editor is its lack of features, especially when compared to other note-taking apps on the market. The tool offers very few choices for customization and formatting, which feels restrictive. For instance, the absence of color variations for highlights is a basic yet crucial feature that's missing. This limitation not only makes my notes visually monotonous but also hampers my ability to organize information effectively. In a digital age where visual cues play a significant role in information retention and organization, this oversight feels particularly outdated. Seeking solutions or at least a timeline for when these much-needed enhancements might be implemented, I reached out to Bear's support team. Unfortunately, the response was underwhelming. The team's answer was a vague "we don't know when we will implement these enhancements," which does not inspire confidence in the app's future development. This lack of commitment to improvement or even a clear roadmap for the app's features is concerning. It suggests a disconnect between the developers and the users' needs, further diminishing my trust in the product. In conclusion, while Bear might offer a minimalist approach that could appeal to users seeking basic note-taking capabilities, its editor tool falls short of expectations. The lack of essential features such as color variations for highlights, coupled with the support team's indifferent response to user feedback, has led to a frustrating experience. For anyone in need of a more robust and flexible note-taking solution, I would recommend looking elsewhere. Bear, in its current state, earns a 2-star rating from me, primarily due to its limited editor tool and the lackluster response from the support team regarding future improvements.

What I complained about previously was not understanind that the MacOS UI of Bear is different from the IOS/iPad UI. It's definitely a 5-Star database with the feature I want, and it's where I store it all at a very reasonable price. Keep up the Great work Shiny Frog!
  • Careful about upgrading. My story is a WARNING!

I loved Bear. No, I adored this software and told everybody. It was my extra memory that linked all the parts of my life. The one essential piece of software. As a tech professional and teacher, it organized everything in my complex work life with multiple employers, clients, tasks, on 3 computers, two ipads, and a phone. It got me through job changes, mortgages, refinances, government red tape, hosting a family wedding, literally fires & floods, and a freaking pandemic! With Bear version 2, my love affair is over - betrayed because Bear version 2 data (synced to the cloud) will corrupt data on any device and may crash the device, that is still using Bear version 1. I just spent 12 hours figuring this out, getting rid of Bear 2, all of it’s data, and then restoring the original files from backup data (> 1000 notes, some huge) on my main computer and phone, and finally correcting the synced data. Heaven help anyone else who is not tech savvy. I can’t upgrade all of my devices to accommodate version 2, nor can I put version 1 on all of my devices (the app store won’t let me revert to version 1 on my new ipad) so I am screwed. I get it that software evolves, but BEAR PEOPLE - couldn’t you have WARNED your paid subscription users NOT to download version 2 unless ALL OF YOUR DEVICES could run it? An email, maybe? No mention of this potential syncing disaster on the app store. The critical info was buried in a little blog [get ready for bear 2] on your website that I found after hours of looking for answers: “Please make sure all your devices are up to date, otherwise do not update to Bear 2 on any of your devices. …Once you’re ready, Bear Pro users should be sure to upgrade to Bear 2 on all devices, as it will not sync with Bear 1.” Sadly, this may be my last note written on Bear, my beloved friend. I’ve had to purchase a different note taking app that will play nicely with everyone. Seriously bad choices, Bear People!

As the title says. So far, I am quite happy. I am able to import my key notes from Evernote, and they mostly render well here. Not perfect, but I don't think there is a perfect migration. Bear is so much faster than Evernote—starting up, syncing—oh my gosh! Keep up the good work, guys!

So easy to use, sync between my Apple devices is rapid and complete, without having to pay extra like the competitors. Just love it.

so a note app should do two things capture notes and capture to-dos. Bear is OK at captureing notes pretty simply but it completely does nothing to capture to-dos. Their idea of to-dos is putting a checkboxe in front of sentence with in a normal old note. No prioritization, no due dates. But when you click on the to-do tag you just see all the notes where you have checkboxes... what is that?

I've used Bear for quite a while. Now ... it immediately crashes on opening. I've uninstalled, re-downloaded, installed - same issue. Try finding a way to contact the developer on the website ... I can't. Bear is useless right now.
