Description

The Moog Model 15 App is the first Moog modular synthesizer and synthesis educational tool created exclusively for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. Each facet of the Moog Model 15 modular synthesizer has been meticulously recreated in this application to ensure the power and transcendent sound quality of each module remains intact. The character, harmonic complexity and mystique of the Moog Model 15’s modules, from the legendary Moog 921–series oscillators and 904A Low Pass Filter, to the coveted 907 Fixed Filter Bank have been painstakingly preserved. In order to develop the most immersive and expressive modular interface possible, the Model 15 App has been designed utilizing Apple’s new Metal advanced graphics engine. This ensures that all zooming, panning and modular patching throughout the application feels completely natural, something that would have been impossible otherwise. The Model 15 App features both monophonic and 4-voice polyphonic operation is easily commanded via 4 seamlessly integrated controllers. Simple swipes and taps provide instant access to a traditional Moog keyboard, 1150 ribbon controller, 8-step sequencing arpeggiator and the award-winning Animoog keyboard with 22 built-in scales and polyphonic modulation capabilities. Also included are extended features which expand the capabilities of the app beyond the traditional offerings of the hardware Moog Model 15. These include total MIDI integration, assignment for external control, use as a MIDI controller, dedicated Audio Bridge and MIDI Bridge modules, looping recorder module with overdubbing, a master ping-pong delay module and a new extension cabinet that includes additional amplifiers and voltage-controlled reversible attenuators that can be used for effects like ring-modulation. Because the Model 15 App utilizes Apple’s Metal technology, only 64-bit devices are supported. Compatible devices include iPhone 5s or newer, iPod touch 6 or newer, iPad Air or newer, and the iPad Pro. The Model 15 App requires iOS version 9.3 or later to work. Additional Features • Ships with over 160 unique presets • Recreates the sound of a hardware Moog Model 15 modular synthesizer • Easily share presets and recordings with anyone • Tutorial patches to assist all experience levels • Intuitive patching and cable coloring • Support for landscape and portrait modes • Voltage-controlled stereo ping-pong delay • Expressive sequencing arpeggiator • Moog 1150 Ribbon controller • Real-time looping recorder with overdub and immediate sharing • Up to two controllers on-screen (iPad only) • Optional left-handed UI operation Supports • AUv3 Audio Unit Extensions • 3D Touch and Apple Pencil integration for after pressure • Note-per-channel MIDI controllers • Ableton Link • Inter-App Audio and Audiobus • MIDI Bridge and Audio Bridge • 7 and 14-Bit MIDI • MIDI Program Change • Bluetooth LE MIDI controllers • Typing keyboards for shortcuts and musical typing • AudioCopy, AudioPaste and AudioShare

Thank you thank you thank you. I've been trying to patch that for years
  • Great App!

Great sounding emulation of a classic modular synth! Includes some great patches which can be easily modified or studied to learn modular synth sound design. Sound quality is extraordinary. I like that Moog designers included the Animoog keyboard which makes it easy to play expressively in a particular key. The arpeggiator has been great to work with; simple but capable. It's nice that the recent update made the app audio unit capable, but being pretty CPU intensive, most hardware would have some difficulty keeping up with more than a few iterations of Model 15. It would be nice if the included tutorials would go a little further. Perhaps something to look forward to in future updates.
  • Such a crazy good synth.

I don’t even call it an app. I would bet money that someone has already used this in a professional live setting. The sound is unreal. There are demos on YouTube comparing it to a hardware analog synth. The difference is so negligible that most people in a blind test setting would probably just chalk it up to being two different types of analog hardware. It’s “expensive” for iOS, yes, but it’s far and away the best-sounding synth app you can get on a mobile platform. An actual Model 15 is $15,000 so you’re actually SAVING $14,970! You’d be losing money by NOT buying it. The math is irrefutable!
  • Aliased, Yet Playable

Moog Model 15: The App has set out to do the impossible. It's not going to be possible for any software to ever avoid aliasing. That said, if you're willing to lay down your sword and give this experience a chance, you'll find it to be quite playable. And if you've ever played around with VSTs that attempted to model this kind of a synth in the past, you'll have a lot more fun and be more satisfied with the audio. One of Moog's killer features in their iOS apps is the ability to touch a knob with one finger and as long as you don't let that finger off of the screen, you keep control of it. By doing that to a lot of knobs selectively over time one can gain a kind of invisible orchestra of control that just doesn't happen in the hardware world. What would give this app five stars? 1. There's some sort of swipe action that switches between the keyboard(s) and the ribbon controller. Boooooo. Get rid of that. Y'all, that's where I'm trying to play this slip n slidey thing. 2. Legibility. I know the original hardware was black with white labels but perhaps an inverted color scheme would help? I agree that it's rough on the eyes sometimes. I borrowed a huge iPad pro from work and was amazed that the modules still didnt fit at a comfortable size. BUT the ability to "latch" a touch eases the frustration. Again, give it a chance
  • Amazing app!!!

I have always loved Moog and was very excited when I found this app. As far as people complaining about needing a 12.9” iPad Pro, they’re just being picky and complaining unnecessarily. I have a 10.5” and 9.7” iPad Pro and it works fine. It is a soft-synth after all!!! 😏 To get all these great sounds for this low price is phenomenal. I connect this app to my MacBook Pro via the midi configuration and control it thru Reason 10 and a Novation Controller. Everything works great. I play the sounds on my controller, record the midi, edit modulation and use the iPad for final tweaking/moving cables while recording the final audio. All around, it’s a must have app if you love moog sounds. If you want more room you can by the USB to lightning adapter, plug in an inexpensive midi controller and play the keys that way, giving you a little more room to access the knobs/cables, etc.

I’ve wanted a Moog synth since I first saw Robert Moog play one with the symphony at the University of Arkansas in......I think it was 1969 (I was around 14 years old).....so cool. This app is the closest I’ve gotten to the real thing. It’s incredibly fun to play and is extremely well thought out. The people who designed this app spent a lot of time thinking through how people would actually use it. I’m using this with an iPhone 7 Plus, so the screen is very small, however it’s still relatively easy to use thanks to the ingenious user interface. Of course, it helps that I’ve hooked up 2 Bluetooth keyboards, The Akai LPK25 wireless and the Akai LPD8 wireless. I love that the app lets me pick knob on the screen, then turn on knob on the keyboard to select which knobs control what. That makes it really easy to set up. I’m coming out of my Iphone 7+ into a Focusrite Scarlett interface and into my computer into Logic Pro X and it sounds great. I also purchased all of the pre-programmed packs that you can buy from the App Store and those are a lot of fun to play and worth the small price. It’s especially nice to have all of those pre-programmed séance to play with just to get started and have some sounds to goof around with but I’ve already started programming some of my own sans thanks to these really excellent tutorial that comes with the app. In fact that tutorial is a really good reason for buying this app in that it takes you step-by-step through how is synthesizer works and how to make patches of your own. It’s a very well thought out and implemented tutorial. I’ve had two or three hardwired synthesizers over the years and of course I’ve used reason and all the synthesizers in logic Pro X and they are all fun and sound really good too but this app has a sound of its own and is one I considered to be one of the best purchases I’ve made for my iPhone. Highly recommended if you’re interested in synthesizers and want to learn how to program one or just want to goof around with it on your phone. Thanks Moog for finally making my dream of owning a Moog synthesizer come true.

Sounds amazing, but it generates the Audio Unit has failed error. Needs to be reloaded constantly and eventually crashes GarageBand. 12.9 iPad Pro with no other AU extensions running. Still crashes. Still pisses me off. Still 1 star. 12/09/17

Hahah!! Although I will never be able to afford a model 15 as long as I live. I love this app and it’s great for learning patch building and hilariously enough basic synthesis. It’s an infinitely complex machine yet as hands on or hands off as you want it to be. All of that said I would love to see synths like the model d or the sub phatty made available in app form. When considering a synth you like to be able to play it first but I don’t have a store available so I can’t test it. Also, Moogs are too precious to be display models. I would adore a sub phatty or model d app to persuade me over the edge to buy.

I have wanted one of these since I was about 14. I'm now old enough to realize that I probably won't get one, but this ain't a bad runner-up. Well done. Well done indeed
  • Best Synth App

I have a screenful of paid synth apps and this is the best of them by far. Very playable keyboard, pro sounding audio quality, good portamento, serves well as a MIdI controller for other apps too. Well worth the price.
