  • It is what you make of it!

Needed a way to make sure my kids were not staying up late on devices and the ability to stop the internet or take away internet access for those who have need of an attitude adjustment. No more arguing about chores. I just say you have so long to get the specific chore or chores done. If they don’t make the deadline the internet goes off until they complete it. No arguing! I have been strategic in putting shared devices in their own profile. So I have one for roku, iPad, wii and the family laptop is in the home profile with the router. Just personal devices are set to a person. I have set the above devices to adult but can still filter out mature and explicit content as no one needs access to that anyway. Plus as an adult I can easily change the level if need to. The personal profiles does allow me to set different bedtimes for the 15 year old compared to the 11 year old. I didn’t find it hard to set up, basically if you have trouble with these kind of things you won’t like the set up but it really is simple. Once it is set up it really is easy. It took me a few days to figure out all the devices. I did have to go in as my children asked for different access what filter needed to be changed to allow certain things. I can set up time limits for different types of media. Less time for games like fortnight more time for music. Limited time for social media and I can also specifically allow certain websites or block them. I can do this for each person or device that I have set up in its own profile. Besides bedtime I can make a specific time of day off time - if you have a set dinner time etc. weekends can be different than weekdays lots of different options. Some have complained about cost but we were paying $11 a month for a filtering system that did not allow us to pause the internet or pause individual people or devices. For the one time cost under $90 circle now allows everything but devices on the go since my kids currently do not have their own phones I don’t have to worry about this. I expect this to change soon but even then it will be under $6 to monitor my kids devices off WiFi too. Are there work around I am sure there are. Clearly I cannot protect my children from their own deceit. If they did that I would eventually find out, if they try to tamper with Circle I can take away all their devices for a month too. Ultimately this gives you “leverage” and a way to protect your children from stumbling or seeking out inappropriate content. Nothing is complete hack proof but I would recommend Circle if you need more oversight on what your children are doing online. This does not control the use of a device off line so our children are required to being down their devices at bedtime. I still have to be a parent. I only had the internet stop for no reason but we just unplugged circle and then plugged it back in and it seemed to reboot it. It hasn’t slowed down internet - though if you are in a rural spot and have internet speed problems it may. You won’t know until you try and then the circle router might be the way to go. If you continue to have problems with children on their internet usage or device time or are having extensive behaviors you might need to try counseling as your problems might be deeper than you think. Again I still have to parent my children. We talked about the circle when we turned it on. They were not happy but we now talk about their internet usage more and If they want time increased I can give an extra chore or just spot them 15 more minutes or more at my discretion.
  • Error message, error message, error message

Downloaded this app to work with my Nighthawk router. Can’t even use it because all I get is error messages. Tried it on three devices all with the same result.
  • “Unable to find Circle”

    By Shadywack
“Why would you like to do next? Try again / Pair new Circle” They’re down more than they’re up it seems like. A service like this demands 99.9% uptime, no excuses. It should be online and ready to connect to its customers always, with quintuple redundancy that rivals natural disaster contingencies. For what they promise and sell, they don’t deliver any of it if they’re offline, ever.
  • Stuck in Loop

Tried to install with my Orbi. Downloaded the Circle app and then the app asked to check to see if my router was compatible. It said it was then went to the next screen to ask the same question .... it will not let me advance any further. Hey developer ??? Any suggestions ???
  • App doesn’t work

    By Cap camp
The app keeps crashing and won’t connect to the circle. If I redownload the app and sign in it crashes again and won’t connect.
  • Incompatibility

    By Trip toucan
So I was so excited for to get this device...three routers later this device is not compatible with a long list of routers which kinda out dates and makes this system obsolete....I’m really disappointed right now. With today’s technology this should be an issue that should be able to easily be fixed quickly...we have the newer router that Spectrum just put in a couple data ago, before that we had a really suped up Netgear router which also didn’t work and another one🙄....Circle doesn’t seem to be able to keep up or doesn’t seem to have the technology to compete....😕. Hopefully they fix this ASAP😕
  • Parents you’re busted!

    By Josien67
This sounded great, but had NO IDEA that that as soon as Circle was installed and my Teen went to a forbidden site, he’d be greeted with a message “Guess what, your non trusting parents care so little for your privacy that they are now monitoring your internet usage” Could you give parents a heads up that the child’s device being monitored will be redirected to the circle home page!!
  • Customer Service

    By c3tharris
Directing someone to read an article in a help area is not good customer service. Even though the website stated there was a number/email or chat link I never found one. Disappointing

At first, I thought how fantastic! I can monitor my children’s devices from one app. but all it has led to is slowing down our entire households connections, spotty connection of itself & many times I’m get notifications that it’s not connected to the internet. So what good is it? The kids can just turn off their WiFi & use their 4G to access internet & no monitoring from circle can be in place. Waste of money, time setting it up & figuring out whose device belongs to what & what setting needs to be in place all for nothing. I even tried the circle go to see if that would be better (additional $5 per month) & no difference at all except I’ve thrown away more $ to a service that does me no service.
  • Great concept

    By Adam_A7
Yes the have a great concept and framework. Still the app is not mature and it can be overwhelming for parents to use if they have a lot of devices. We have more than 30 devices and it is a challenge to identify them due to device manufacture naming conventions and family members naming their devices. I think it would be fine if you have fewer devices.
