Apple notes is getting better and better with recent software updates. But Bear Notes has so many features that I want and look for . Its interface is so clean and easy too you . I’ve tried other note take apps and nothing works as well for me .
  • Evernote Refugee, haven’t looked back

As the title says, I made the switch to Bear when Evernote made some interesting changes regarding how many notes free users could have, and I haven’t looked back since. Where other note taking apps like Notion have a really steep learning curve, Bear is easy to learn and approachable to newcomers. I’m so glad I made the switch and have no plans of ever going back.
  • Lost functionality after upgrade.

Bear was absolutely perfect before the 2.0 update. There was a very slim/narrow bar along the top of the keyboard with all the functions. You had to slide it to get to some of them, but after 30 minutes’ use, it wasn’t a big deal. Plus it stayed in place when you slid it so you could generally complete what you were doing without much need for other items, anyway. And when you got used to it, it was extremely quick and easy to get to what you needed, practically like typing. Now they have turned that super functional bar into a gigantic second keyboard. You have to press a button to get to it, and then it obscures the keyboard entirely. Sure, you can press one button and make yourself a long to do list. But if you want to add any indentations? Change any headings? You have to shift into that screen, then shift back into the keyboard, continue the list, and then to go back to left alignment, you have to repeat the process. And so on and so forth for every single formatting event you want to make. It has destroyed the functionality of it for me. I had previously switched completely over to Bear from Apple Notes for the added functionality and being cleaner to look at it. As soon as the update came out, I switched back. I occasionally try to use bear again, but it has become clunky and frustrating. I use screens because I type faster than I can write. Unfortunately Bear 2.0 slows down the process so that when using it, I go slower than I can write. I appreciate the developers’ desire to listen to and improve based on users’ feedback. I wish those new systems would be made optional (as in choose your system/interface) or togglable (as in switch on or off what you like). I have paid for at least a couple years now and would have paid more. I’m sure others like the new design so try it out yourself and don’t let this review sway you.

I have been using Bear for several years. My favorite part about it was it was so simple to use and unlike most note taking apps, it minimized checked off to-do items so they didn’t clutter the screen. It was my minimalist dream! That went away with the major update that changed the overall look and feel of the app. It’s clunkier, less intuitive, and my beloved disappearing checked off boxes are no more. At this point, it’s really no different for me than just using the standard Notes app. I went from using Bear every day to a couple times a month.

I downloaded Bear back in 2016 and it’s been my exclusive writing app since. The interface is intuitive yet non-intrusive, something very important to me. I can write without a bunch of buttons scattered across the screen and can pull them up easily when I do need them. The tag system is amazing and easy to work with and I love the small touches like changing tag icons! I write every day and it’s thanks to Bear!

This app has the most fantastic UI/UX. Full of delightful surprises. Is quick and simple to use, but also powerful where it matters. Definitely worth the download. You get almost everything for free, but premium is worth it to support the excellent developers. Great work!

I’ve used bear notes on and off for over 3 years. I love everything about it except for its lack of sharing. Please let me share my notes even if it’s just to other Apple users.

Truly a beautiful piece of software. As a front end software engineer and a writer, I have found most software to leave something to be desired in either their design/engineering or their organizational features. Bear excels in both. I am 180k words into writing my novel exclusively in Bear, and it has met nearly every one of my needs. The UI is elegant, tagging is easy, search is lightning fast, and iCloud synchronization between mobile and laptop is silky smooth. Eagerly anticipating Bear for Web - I would love to be able to use it for work but my work computer uses a separate AppleID and I don’t want to pay for Pro for both. Also would love to be able to leave inline comments. As a writer, this is perhaps the feature I miss the most in moving to Bear from Google Docs and Scrivener. Sounds like it’s already on your radar. Thanks for a great app!

Guys— please don’t clutter the screen with the “back / forward” button. Not necessary. Or at worst let people tap to get that.
